It is stated that she is a somewhat new player, since she advanced through junior class and beat Gary before Roy's play damaged her confidence. When called out on it by Micki, she gets upset but then realizes the truth. Kyoko seems a bit envious but not jealous of Clay's success. However, Kyoko apparently had not 100% regained her confidence since she showed little interest in going after a varsity ranking.
