Koins are enemies introduced in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. These Kremlings wear a bucket on their head and carry around a trash can lid as a shield, and a DK Coin is attached to it. Their name is a pun on "coin". By defeating the Koin, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong can acquire its DK Coin. To defeat a Koin, the Kongs often have to throw a Steel Barrel at the wall behind Koin, causing it to bounce off and roll into Koin from behind.

History
Koins are Kremlings encountered in every level of the games Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! and Donkey Kong Land III. Koins wear buckets on their head and carry a shield which has a DK Coin attached to it. The name Koin derives from Donkey Kong Country developers spelling many words that start with "C" with a "K," like many other Kremling names. According to the game's credits, Koins belong to the "Kremling Kreeps" enemy class.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
Koins are enemies in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!. They appear in every level, usually at the end, moving its shield in whichever direction Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are in. If the Kongs approach a Koin from either the front or try to jump on it, the Koin uses its shield to bounce the Kongs backward. If the Kongs throw a Steel Barrel at the Koin's armor, it bounces off. If the Kongs replay a level where they have collected its DK Coin, the DK Coin no longer appears on the Koin's shield. In certain circumstances, some Koins can only be defeated if a Bazuka shoots a Steel Barrel at the Koin, in which case the Kongs have to use a Switch Barrel to change Bazuka's Barrels or TNT Barrels into Steel Barrels. In a few levels, the Kongs have only a single chance to defeat the Koin, if they can only get a nearby Steel Barrel by crossing a No Animal Sign with an Animal Friend. If Dixie and Kiddy are unsuccessful, they have to restart the level for another chance at defeating the Koin. In Dixie Kong's Photo Album, a Koin is categorized with the other Kremlings as part of the Kremling Kreeps category.

Koins have a pink variant in the level Koindozer Klamber, named Koindozers. Unlike Koins, Koindozers (which cannot be defeated) attempt to defeat the Kongs by pushing them into the pits with their shields.

Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong can defeat a Koin by using a Steel Keg; oftentimes, they have to throw the Steel Keg over him, which will then rebound off a wall and hit Koin in the back, defeating him and giving Dixie and Kiddy a DK Coin. If the Kongs themselves approach a Koin from the front, he will knock them away; if they attempt to jump on him, he will raise his shield and block the jump. Most of the time, Koins are found near the beginning or the end of the level. After the DK Coin is collected, a Koin will use a trash can lid as a shield.

In certain levels of the remake, a Koin can be defeated from a TNT Barrel, such as in Surf's Up, from the resulting explosion while Koin faces upward.
Some Koins can only be defeated with the assistance of a Kremling enemy named Bazuka. In some levels, the Steel Keg required to defeat Koin is obtained by bringing an Animal Friend past the No Animal Sign. In these cases, the Kongs only get one chance to defeat Koin; if they fail, they must replay the entire level to get another chance.

Donkey Kong Land III
Multiple Koins with a dark pink tint, dubbed the Koindozer Klan, are encountered in the level "Koindozer Klamber". Koindozers are much more aggressive than their green brethren, chasing the Kongs and attempting to bash them into pits.
Koins are enemies in Donkey Kong Land III. They are mostly the same as before, except DK Coins appear by themselves in all underwater stages instead.

Profiles and statistics
In Donkey Kong Land III, Koins are absent in underwater levels since they do not have a separate cave area like those in Donkey Kong Country 3. Instead, the DK Coin is hidden in the level much like they were in Donkey Kong Country 2 and Donkey Kong Land 2.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, it is possible to defeat Koin with a regular or TNT Barrel, which is not possible to do in the original SNES version. However, this can only be done in certain levels.
