Kocos first appear in ''[[Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!]]'' They are one of the most common underwater enemies. Kocos bear a resemblance to [[Cheep Cheep]]s of the [[Mario (franchise)|''Mario'' franchise]] and, like them, come in the colors red and green and swim in a set pattern depending on color. They are also similar to [[Bitesize]]s. Green Kocos remain completely still, while the red variety either swims forward without stopping, or swims back and forth within an area.


Red Kocos appear in ''[[Donkey Kong Land III]]'', retaining the same behavior as before, something that original {{wp|Western world|Western}} releases made evident only from their behavior. Two red Kocos are depicted on the game cover in all regions. Kocos are also the namesake enemy of the level [[Koco Channel]].
