'''King Boo's Haunted Hideaway''' is a [[board (Mario Party series)|board]] from ''[[Mario Party 8]]''. It is set in a 12-room haunted house at night, and is unique in that the player can constantly see only a few spaces ahead of their character, even when viewing the map, which only lets the player see into the rooms that have been entered. The board also changes each time it is played in a new game. [[King Boo]] is the main attraction, and will be hiding in one of three sanctums within the mansion, but only one will have King Boo; finding one of the other two will cause mini-[[Red Boo]]s to toss them into the nearby pitfall, taking them back to the start of the board. Sometimes, there will only be one room containing a pitfall. Red Boos also run the [[Candy Shop]]s on the board as well.

When a player finds King Boo, he gives them a [[Star (Mario Party series)|Star]] for 10 coins. He then "summons the bizarre", which rearranges the board, sends everyone back to start, and begins the search again. If the player does not have at least 10 coins, or if they refuse the star, King Boo drops them into a pitfall, sending them back to the beginning. [[Whomp]]s are also present, and players who want to pass them must trade a 10-coin fee. If the player trades 10 coins, the Whomp will move to block the other path, allowing the player to proceed along the path they were originally blocking.

Landing on [[DK Space]]s causes [[Donkey Kong]] to appear and use his platforms to block the pitfalls; the first player that reaches him receives a free Star from him. The [[Bowser Space]] works the opposite way; [[Bowser]] takes a Star from the player, and then drops them into the pit. If the player has no stars, Bowser grudgingly gives the player 10 coins; if played in Duel Battle and [[Mario Party 8#Star Battle Arena|Star Battle Arena]], Bowser will steal all of the player's coins instead of Stars, although players who have no coins will receive 10 from him. After a player encounters Donkey Kong, Bowser, or gets a star from King Boo, the pitfalls return to normal. When DK or Bowser is active, their areas will be marked on the map, which, after a player encountered one of them, will be marked as an "X". This also happens after a player encounters a pitfall; the pitfall will be marked in a similar manner to give players a visual cue. The [[Lucky Space]] takes the player to the second floor, where there is a small path of Blue Spaces, each with three coins. At the end of the path is a [[Warp Pipe]] which takes the player directly to King Boo's sanctum.

Landing on the [[Event Space|? Space]]s in front of the [[Piranha Plant]]s will cause them to snatch up and chew on adjacent players, taking 10 coins from them. The ? The ? Space next to [[Mowz]] lets the player steal candy, coins, or a Star from another player via pinball. ? Spaces next to shaking chests open the chest, giving the player candy, 20 coins, or Red Boos that take 10 coins from the player, depending on the gameplay and their amount of coins.

In the Star Battle Arena, players race to obtain 2 stars, which is done by finding King Boo and trading 10 coins for a Star twice. Here, the mansion consists of 24 rooms instead of 12, making this the only board in ''Mario Party 8'' that becomes larger when played in Star Battle Arena, instead of smaller. In this mode, there are five sanctums in the mansion, of which three contain King Boo. The other two contain pitfalls. When a star is obtained from King Boo, the mansion is not rearranged, although the sanctum where the player obtained the star turns into a pitfall. This is the only board in Star Battle Arena that offers multiple options on how players can get stars, as unlike in [[Shy Guy's Perplex Express]] and [[Bowser's Warped Orbit]], [[Donkey Kong]] will give the player a free Star if said player reaches him, as in Battle Royale and Tag Battle.
