When touching anything hot, namely [[fireball]]s and [[Hot-Hot Rock]]s, they pop and start bouncing on the ground while moving in a certain direction. Like many other enemies, they hurt the player from the side and below but can be defeated by a simple [[stomp]] or an attack from various power-ups.

When they pop, they emit a savory aroma.<ref name=WonderSekai14/> Their name is an onomatopoeia for popping, as well as a combination of "kernel" and "popcorn".
