==Gameplay==
==Gameplay==
The minigame begins with the team players having five seconds to choose one of four hiding places (a rock, a tree stump, a bush, and a mushroom house). Each player's hiding spot is determined by their last input on the controller. While the timer goes down, the characters are shown running between the hiding places, though their movement is random and independent from the players' actual inputs.<ref>Supper Mario Broth (June 24, 2020). [https://twitter.com/MarioBrothBlog/status/1275910133210587136 Supper Mario Broth (@MarioBrothBlog): "In the Hide and Sneak minigame in Mario Party 3, the characters are shown running between the different hiding places. This is entirely misdirection on part of the game, as the running animation is independent of both player input and location and thus is best entirely ignored." | Twitter]</ref> Any rival player that does not choose a hiding spot exits the stage and is considered out.<ref>Unluke_52 (February 11, 2024). [https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2059351884 Unluke_52: Yoshi loses the turn by not doing an input and goes off the game.]</ref> Once the five seconds are up, the curtains close and reopen with the team already hidden. The solo player then has ten seconds to select one of the hiding places to remove from the stage. If this reveals one or more characters, those are eliminated. This process is repeated for two more rounds with only the remaining hiding places. The solo player wins if they find all three team members within the three rounds. Otherwise, the team wins.
Three players must attempt to hide behind one of the four hiding places (a rock, a tree stump, a bush, and a mushroom house) while the curtain is still open. The last time {{button|n64|Stick}} was tilted in a direction determines the player's hiding spot in ''Mario Party 3''; in ''Superstars'', it is instead dependent on which button was pressed. The solo player must guess one of the other three players’ hiding places. If the solo player finds one of the players in that hiding spot, that player is eliminated. In addition, if a player does not tilt {{button|n64|Stick}}/press a button at all during the hiding phase, that player is automatically eliminated.

In ''Mario Party Superstars'', if the team wins with one or two players remaining, the eliminated players come back on stage to perform their victory poses with the team.
While players choose their hiding places, their characters are shown running between the hiding places. These animations of the characters running are unrelated to the actual hiding places the players are choosing; a player’s character will be shown running around even if that player never chooses a different hiding place.<ref>Supper Mario Broth (June 24, 2020). [https://twitter.com/MarioBrothBlog/status/1275910133210587136 Supper Mario Broth (@MarioBrothBlog): "In the Hide and Sneak minigame in Mario Party 3, the characters are shown running between the different hiding places. This is entirely misdirection on part of the game, as the running animation is independent of both player input and location and thus is best entirely ignored." | Twitter]</ref> Thus, the solo player can only correctly identify a hider’s spot through luck or by understanding a human hider’s psychology.

===Trio Challenge===
At the end of each round, the selected hiding spot is used up, and the remaining players in the trio then select a direction to hide from the remaining hiding spots. The players should be careful as the number of hiding spots decreases. If the solo player seeks all of the team players in their hiding spots within three rounds, the solo player wins. If any of the team players survived from being caught by the solo player after the third round, the team players win.
In ''Mario Party Superstars'', this minigame is available in Stage 1 and Stage 4 of the [[Mt. Minigames#Trio Challenge|Trio Challenge]] in [[Mt. Minigames]].

In Stage 1, (a) human player(s) play(s) as a team against an Easy CPU solo opponent, and the rank requirements are:

* A: All three team members survive
* B: Two team members survive
* C: Only a non-CPU team member survives
* D: Only a CPU team member survives
