After taking on the trouble, Mario must travel to Poshley Heights to find Bub just outside the Poshley Sanctum. When talked to, Bub reveals that because he had gotten into a fight with his mother, Sylvia, he wrote a letter for her and wants to give her a present to make it up to her. He asks Mario what item he should use for the present: Mushroom Cake, Keel Mango, or Fright Mask. If Mario chooses Mushroom Cake, he will need Zess T. to mix a Mushroom with a Cake Mix (bought from Pianta Parlor) to make one. If Mario chooses Keel Mango, he will need to travel to Keelhaul Key to obtain one. Mario must deliver the selected item to Bub, who then makes the present out of the item and the letter. Since Bub is afraid to face his angry mother, he asks Mario to deliver the present instead, so Mario must go find Sylvia near the Excess Express station to give it to her. When Sylvia reads Bub's letter and opens the present from him, she is so touched by her son's gesture and asks Mario (calling him "Gonzales") to go tell Bub she is not angry with him, so Mario must then go back to Bub to tell him how Sylvia felt about the present. When Mario relays Sylvia's message to Bub, Bub gratefully rewards Mario with three coins (which he says are his "entire fortune") before leaving to rejoin his parents, and the trouble is solved. It is revealed that the fight was caused by Bub not doing his homework.
