A '''Heart Boost''' is a power-up item that appears in ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns]]'', ''[[Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D]]'', and ''[[Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze]]''. It adds a third [[Heart (item)|heart]] to [[Donkey Kong]]'s health for a [[level]], or a partner Kong in two-player mode. The Heart Boost functions the same in both games and it can be bought for ten [[Banana Coin]]s from [[Cranky Kong's Shop]] and [[Funky's Fly 'n' Buy]] from the respective games. Like other inventory items, it cannot be used in [[Mirror Mode]].

Like [[Squawks the Parrot]] and [[Banana Juice]], the Heart Boost's effect wears off if the Kongs either finish the level or quit prematurely. Its effect lasts for an entire level, even if the Kongs lose any [[Extra life|lives]]. When a partner Kong is on Donkey Kong's back, the duo have a collective total of five hearts.

In ''Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D''{{'}}s New Mode, Heart Boosts had their price reduced to three Banana Coins at Cranky Kong's Shop. The [[Crash Guard]] has a similar role to the Heart Boost, except it increases the durability of [[Mine Cart]]s or [[Rocket Barrel]]s in a level.
