Halfpipe is a Snowboard Event that appears in the Wii version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. The objective of the event is to score as many points as possible, with the event taking place on Cypress Mountain. Luigi appears taking place in this event in the game's opening, and the starting record for this event is held by Tails with a score of 40.000pt(s). Lakitu and Espio appear as a referees in this event.

Gameplay
In this event, the player starts by selecting their character's snowboarding style, either regular or goofy, which affects the way the character stands on the snowboard. Once the event starts, the character will start making their way onto the halfpipe automatically, but the player can swing the Wii Remote down at the end of the countdown for their performance start to gain a speed boost when they make their way onto the halfpipe. Once on the halfpipe, the player can pick up speed by tilting their Wii Remote forward, which causes the character to lean forward, and steer by tilting it left and right to steer in the respective direction. The player can perform jumps by swinging the Wii Remote upwards, and can perform tricks if they swing upwards at the edge of the halfpipe. The closer to the edge of the halfpipe they are when they swing upwards, the more air time they will have and thus more time to perform tricks. The player's airtime is also affected by their speed as they approach the edge of the halfpipe, with greater speeds providing more airtime, and the angle the edge is approached at, with more direct angles giving better jumps. Once the character is in the air, the player can perform tricks by swinging the Wii Remote in various directions. The player scores points for each trick they successfully perform, with more points awarded for the more tricks they do. The player can also perform more advanced tricks that will score them more points by pressing buttons on wii, which then prompts them to move the Wii Remote in a specific shape within a certain time. Doing so successfully will score the player points, however failing to do so will result in a miss and not score any points. These tricks can only be performed when the player has enough airtime. If the player successfully performs multiple tricks, they will receive a sped boost upon landing, however the player may crash if they are performing a trick when landing, which will lose them speed. Successfully landing multiple tricks in a row also gives the player bonus points, with the amount of points earned for each jump successfully landed increasing the more that are done. The player can also use wii once during the event to perform their special action, which gives the character a large speed boost. The character with the most points, up to a maximum of fifty, at the end of their performance wins the event.

Instructions
Rules
*In the Halfpipe event, players zigzag across the course while performing tricks (for up to 50 points each) and competing for the top score.
*Earning the maximum possible score requires the right timing when jumping, performing tricks and landing.

Controls
*Move the Wii Remote left and right to mover across the halfpipe. Swing the Wii Remote while airborne to perform tricks.
*You begin automatically, but you can shake the Wii Remote when the count of "3, 2, 1, GO!" reaches "GO!" to perform a starting dash.
*To move, tilt the Wii Remote forward to lean forward, or tilt it left/right to turn left/right.
*To jump from the pipe, swing the Wii Remote up just as you reach the top. The closer you get to the edge of the wall, the higher you will go.
*Use the Wii Remote to perform tricks. Moving the Wii Remote up, down, left, or right will spin the character in that direction.
*You will not be able to grab the snowboard if the Nunchuk is not attached.

Tips
*Jumping a moment before hitting the top of the halfpipe wall will earn you more air and the chance to pull off more tricks!
*Stringing together tricks will earn you a higher score and net you a bigger speed boost upon landing.
*Trying to pull off tricks up until the moment you touch down again can lead to crash landing, so keep air time in mind when doing tricks.
*Continue to land jumps without crashing and you will earn bonus points upon each successive landing.
*Press the +Control Pad and a command will appear. Move the Wii Remote as indicated to perform an advanced trick!
*Press wii to use your special action and make your character perform a dash! You only get one per event, so make it count!
