| | Gringills are large eel-like enemies in Super Mario Galaxy. They have large eyes and teeth, and can be orange or lavender in color. They first appear in the Beach Bowl Galaxy, and later appear in the Drip Drop Galaxy. They make yet another appearence in the Sea Slide Galaxy, and appear for the last time in the Bigmouth Galaxy. They can be killed by throwing a Koopa Shell at them, while underwater. They attack simply by trying to eat Mario, similar to how Bubba from Super Mario 64 attacks. They may be the Super Mario Galaxy counterparts of Unagi. |

| Gringills are enemies in Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2. These huge orange eels have large eyes and teeth, and these eels act as an alien counterpart to the recurring Maw-Ray. Much like Maw-Ray, they attack simply by trying to bite Mario or Luigi. Gringills can be defeated by throwing a Koopa Shell at them. An even larger version called Big Gringill also exists.

| In Super Mario Galaxy, Gringills come in two varieties, being ones in caves and ones that swim freely. Caved ones' behavior also has two variations: Some become visible only if Mario gets close, at which point they emerge and bite whenever he approaches but remain visible in their caves regardless; others constantly emerge, bite, and retract regardless of what Mario does. Free-swimming Gringills always swim in wide, medium-speed loops similarly to the Sushi enemy in Super Mario 64. The latter type is the focus of Giant Eel Outbreak, where Mario must defeat three Gringills that are menacing the Drip Drop Galaxy.

| |
| In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Gringills are a lot less common, with only the caved versions making occasional appearances. This variety still has its behavioral variation from the first game.
