| | Gotcha Wrenches appear on the first stage of the game Wrecking Crew. A Gotcha Wrench climbs around the construction site chasing Mario. They come in two colors, purple (Gotcha Wrench) and red (Gotcha Wrench Jr., which moves more slowly). |

| Gotchawrenches first appear in VS. Wrecking Crew as nameless enemies and are among the only major enemy obstacles. Red ones move slowly while purple ones, introduced in Phase 3 (Phase 5 in the Western world version) move quickly. The two types are found together in Phases 7 to 10, but not in Western versions. Gotchawrenches nearly always use the ladder nearest to them. They transit between the foreground and background screens through opened doors in their path. A Gotchawrench on the opposite screen appears as a harmless silhouette.
| |
|
| |
|
| Starting in Phase 11, red ones are replaced by a hatchet-like variant that behaves the same. This variation is entirely exclusive to VS. Wrecking Crew. In the Western version, the hatchet type debuts in Phase 13 as the slowest enemy. In Phase 15, all three types appear on the stage.

| | | Gotcha Wrench is the third challenger in this modern Wrecking Crew update. Gotcha Wrench is purple and looks the same as it does in the original. It also appears in the port of the original game, which is on the same cartridge. |

They come in two colors, purple (Gotchawrench) and red (Gotchawrench Jr., which moves more slowly). Gotchawrenches can become trapped in drums permanently.
