The Gold Koopeleon (Japanese: ノコレオンゴールド Gold Nokoreon) is a rare variety of Koopeleon, the Koopa chameleon. In Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, Gold Koopeleons live in the Thwomp Caverns, the interior of the Thwomp Volcano. Gold Koopeleons, as their name implies, look just like regular Koopeleons, except they are gold and flashing.

The Gold Koopeleon is an enemy that appears in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, where it is found in the Thwomp Caverns. They are a shining golden variant of the regular Koopeleon. Like their base counterparts, Gold Koopeleons have the ability to turn nearly invisible, but will flee from Mario, Luigi and their baby counterparts in the overworld.
Like the Koopeleon, Gold Koopeleons have the ability to turn invisible. However, unlike their green cousins, Gold Koopeleons turn invisible to hide from potential attackers. Gold Koopeleons give many Gold Coins and plenty of EXP. Additionally, although Gold Koopeleons have high defense, they also have low HP.

Battle
When confronted, Gold Koopeleons tend to flee rather than fight. However, if a Gold Koopeleon decides to fight, it uses two attacks in battle. First, the Gold Koopeleon may turn invisible and attempt to run into the attacker. Fortunately, the Gold Koopeleon's movement can be followed by the dust that flies in the air as it moves. This attack can be countered by jumping. Secondly, a Gold Koopeleon may run up to Mario or Luigi and hit him with its tongue. Again, this attack can be dodged by jumping. Sometimes the Gold Koopeleon will perform multiple tongue strikes, meaning the Mario Bros. have to jump multiple times to avoid taking damage.
Gold Koopeleons have low HP, but maximum DEF, and tend to flee from battle rather than fight. When they do not opt to flee, they use the same attacks as regular Koopeleons: they can blend into their surroundings and attempt to ram into one of the brothers, who can counter by jumping. Gold Koopeleons can also run up to Mario, Luigi, or their baby selves and attack them with their tongue, and may do so multiple times; this attack must also be dodged by jumping, and may trip the brother it hits. Gold Koopeleons give plenty of coins and EXP points if the Mario Bros. and their baby selves can defeat them in time.

Because they have 999 DEF, they take minimal damage (1 HP of damage in international versions). This does not apply to the initial jump that is used to enter the battle against them.
