Gloombas live deep underground, in areas such as [[Toad Town Tunnels]] and the [[Pit of 100 Trials (Rogueport)|Pit of 100 Trials]]. They are much more powerful than their surface-dwelling cousins. A Gloomba gets its blue hue from living without sunlight. 

Gloombas may be based off the dark-colored Goombas [[Mario]] encountered in the underground levels of ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]''; however, these Goombas were colored blue to represent the lack of sunlight.
