At first sight, they look like the collectible [[Smiley Flower]]s, floating in midair, but with menacing grins. However, when a [[Yoshi (species)|Yoshi]] approaches them, they drop to the ground, rolling very quickly, squashing any enemies, and hurting the Yoshi upon contact. They disappear after hitting a wall. The Yoshi can also cause one to laugh and prematurely attack by shooting an [[Yoshi's Egg|egg]] at it from a distance.

Outside the ''Yoshi's Island'' games, Fooly Flowers also appear in ''[[Yoshi's Woolly World]]'', ''[[Poochy & Yoshi's Woolly World]]'', and ''[[Yoshi's Crafted World]]''. In the latter game, Fooly Flowers have a different role. When a Yoshi hits a [[Time Cloud]] with an egg, the challenge provided could possibly be for the Yoshi to find the real Smiley Flower among a large group of Fooly Flowers, and throw an egg at the collectible before time expires. Here, if a Fooly Flower gets hit, it simply disappears.
