In the Story Mode for Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, when Mario (or Luigi) approach stage 2-2 in Pirate Island, they need to use a Boogie Booster to advance past a whirlpool. A Fishin' Lakitu, the owner of the shop, is willing to grant them this item if Mario successfully beats him in the song "Fishing Frenzy". In the EX version of the story, the Lakitu challenges Mario in the song "Pirate Dance" instead.

In Super Mario Odyssey Fishin' Lakitus appear in many different places. Mario can capture them and throw the line into bodies of water. Several Cheep Cheeps are able to be caught in them, where you can see the silhouettes in the water. In the Sand Kingdom and Lake Kingdom, there are bodies of water where you can capture a Fishin' Lakitu and fish for a Power Moon. In Snow Kingdom and Bowser's Kingdom, Fishin' Lakitus can be used to fish in ice water and poison respectively. Additionally, in Sand Kingdom, there's an area of sand near the oasis where you can also fish, this time for Captain Toad instead. Upon rescuing him, he'll reward you with a Power Moon.
