The Final Smash is a special move that can be used from breaking a Smash Ball in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. After breaking open one of these items, its power flows into the fighter, charging them up. The fighter will begin to emit a yellow aura, and their eyes will turn yellow as well. The character will activate their Final Smash the next time the player uses their standard special move. However, if the fighter does not initiate the Final Smash soon enough, they can drop the Smash Ball if they get attacked enough times. Final Smashes can be used by any fighter, including those representing the Super Mario franchise.

The games also have a function known as a Pity Final Smash (called Easy Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U). If a fighter is KO'd while being five points or stocks behind the leading player, the fighter respawns with an Easy Final Smash. An Easy Final Smash serves the same functions as a normal Final Smash, but it has the advantage of not having a Smash Ball form, and therefore cannot be taken away by other fighters. Easy Final Smashes also return in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, but CPU players will not receive one even if the conditions are met.
The Final Smash is a Special Move that is only possible through the aid of a Smash Ball in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  After breaking open one of these items, its power flows into the fighter, charging him or her up. The fighter's eyes glow white and yellow, at which point the fighter is free to unleash the Final Smash at any moment by pressing the special move button. Sometimes, the player with the least points can go on standby for a Final Smash after receiving a KO. Each person's attack is a manifestation of their individual personalities or unique abilities. For example, Zero Laser charges up Samus Aran's Power Suit while Peach Blossom is a magnification of Princess Peach's joyful personality.

The Final Smashes in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are much quicker and require little to no control, so players can return to fighting quickly. As a result, many fighters that had controllable/transformative Final Smashes received new, instant, and non-transformative Final Smashes (e.g. Super Dragon being replaced by Stampede!, and Konga Beat being replaced by Jungle Rush), although some retain their transformation effect (e.g. Giga Bowser Punch) or can still be affected by user input (e.g. Octopus and Super Sonic can be controlled vertically); while Final Smashes such as Shadow Mario Paint and Grand Star have been made less powerful. This game also introduces the FS Meter, where players can charge up a Final Smash with a meter under the damage meter. The Final Smashes released from these are much weaker, easier to dodge, and can be shielded against. When the player activates a Final Smash, a cut-in of the summoner's face briefly appears on-screen.
Final Smashes are phenomenally powerful and can completely tip the scale of battles.  However, each is not without its own repercussions. The attacks can cause self-destructs, and Samus even changes into Zero Suit Samus after using her Final Smash.

Final Smash Types
While each fighter's Final Smash is different, their are three general types. A common type is where the player must get near another one, and execute the Smash, or else they will miss. These may attack one or more opponents, inflicting great damage that often knock out opponents. Even if they fail to do so directly, an affected opponent is usually extremely weak afterwards. Examples for these kind are Link's Triforce Slash, Meta Knight's Galaxia Darkness, and Ike's Great Aether. The second type is based on transformations. These change fighters completely, giving them a completely new moveset and sometimes granting invincibility or the ability to fly. In this type, the player must control the fighter during the Smash, unlike other types. These Smashes are often more difficult to perform, as players must keep track of their position while they attack, lest they self-destruct in the process. Some examples for this type are Sonic's Super Sonic, Bowser's Giga Bowser Transformation, and Wario's Wario-Man. The third kind is when all the player has to do is execute the Smash, and the Smash itself will do the rest. It does not matter where, or when the Smash is done; there will almost always be an affect. These types of Final Smashes are most effective, when playing with more than two players. Some examples for this type of Smash are Pit's Palutena's Army, Captain Olimar's End of Day, and Captain Falcon's Blue Falcon. There are some Final Smashes, such as Donkey Kong's Konga Beat, which borrow elements from more than one category. Also, there are totally unique Smashes, such as Peach's Peach Blossom, Luigi's Negative Zone, and Jigglypuff's Puff Up, that are difficult to categorize in the three above. If possible, it will be categorized.<br>

History
History
Most Final Smashes are based on the character's individual background in their series, like Zelda and Sheik's Light Arrow. However, some have been invented specially for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, like Mario's Mario Finale. Although they were planned to be included in the original Super Smash Bros.<ref>{{cite|quote=Actually, I thought of using the Smash Ball since the very first Nintendo 64 version of the game.|publisher=Masahiro Sakurai|url=us.wii.com/iwata_asks/ssbb/vol5_page1.jsp|title=Wii.com - Iwata Asks: Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Masahiro Sakurai compared the Final Smash as a more powerful, "majestic" Hammer item (found in all Super Smash Bros. games),<ref>{{cite|quote=People who have played the previous Smash Bros. title need only imagine the stronger, more majestic version of the Hammer to understand what I’m talking about.|publisher=Masahiro Sakurai|url=us.wii.com/iwata_asks/ssbb/vol5_page1.jsp|title=Wii.com - Iwata Asks: Super Smash Bros. However, some may have been invented specially for Super Smash Bros. Brawl, like Mario's Mario Finale. Masahiro Sakurai compared the moves to the Hammer item found in all Super Smash Bros. titles<ref>"People who have played the previous Smash Bros. title need only imagine the stronger, more majestic version of the Hammer to understand what I’m talking about." - Masahiro Sakurai, [http://us.wii.com/iwata_asks/ssbb/vol5_page1.jsp Wii.com - Iwata Asks: Super Smash Bros. |align=center|Lucario
|Lucario jumps high above the stage, then fires a beam of Aura, that the player can guide across the stage to devastate his opponents. If the beam stays on an opponent throughout the final smash, and its power varies depending on how hurt Lucario is, varying from 28-72%, possibly higher. Additionally, if foes are hit by Lucario's initial rising animation, they will take 4% damage.<small>3</small>

|align=center|Beast Ganon
|align=center|Ganondorf
|Ganondorf transforms into Dark Beast Ganon, slamming down on any foes in front of him, and charging off the stage, taking any unlucky victims with him. After the Final Smash ends, Ganondorf returns to where he was standing. The attack does 10% damage with the initial slam, and 47% damage for the dash. It is nearly always a One-Hit KO.<small>2</small>

|
|align=center|Blue Falcon
|align=center|Captain Falcon
|Captain Falcon summons his vehicle, Blue Falcon, and then rams the other players with it into an unknown F-Zero track, and then rams them again while on this track, returning to the normal stage, causing players to be knocked into the air. The attack may only do 40% damage, but the victims will almost always get KO'd instantly. This Final Smash is unique in that there is a cinematic with the Blue Falcon. No other Final Smashes have cinematics. If Captain Falcon fails to hit anyone with his Blue Falcon, the move fails.<small>2</small>

|-
|
|align=center|Galaxia Darkness
|align=center|Meta Knight

Meta Knight slices through the darkness and his enemies at the same time, returning the stage to normal. The attack does 40% damage to those caught in the cape and 18% to anyone not caught in the cape. If Meta Knight fails to catch anyone in the cape, the attack fails.<small>2</small>

|Donkey Kong pulls out a pair of bongos and starts playing them, with a version of DK Island Swing replacing the current background music. The music waves surrounding the bongos will damage opponents and the length of the waves increases if the player presses an attack button with proper timing to the beat.
|Sonic transforms into Super Sonic with the seven Chaos Emeralds, and flies around the stage, devastating the opposing players. Each ram does damage based on how fast Sonic is traveling; the faster he is dashing when he hits, the more damage he will do. <small>3</small>

|Donkey Kong will do a punch to trap players. Any opponents caught will be treated to a series of rapid punches from Donkey Kong before he finishes with an uppercut, referencing Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.
|align=center|Link and Toon Link
|
|Link/Toon Link surrounds an opponent with the Triforce, and slashes him/her continously. The direction of the opponent when knocked depends on the character used. The attack does 78% damage, and any additional foes caught in the attack will take up to 60% before being knocked away before Link/Toon Link's final slash. For the attack to work, the player must fire the Triforce at people, but the Triforce only goes forward. <small>3</small>

|Diddy Kong equips his Rocketbarrel Pack and Peanut Popguns and starts flying around the stage firing explosive peanuts at opponents. The player can control Diddy Kong's flight and peanut firing.
|The Pokémon Trainer sends out all three of his Pokémon, who use Hydro Pump, Solarbeam, and Fire Blast on the opponents twice. The two attacks do 47% damage up close, and 30% far away. <small>3</small>

|Diddy Kong equips his Rocketbarrel Pack and zips across the screen in many different directions. At the end, he homes in on one random player and the barrels will explode on them.
|align=center|Pikachu
|
|Pikachu forms a ball of electricity around himself, and moves across the stage devastating players who get hit, taking 27% damage each time they are struck. <small>3</small>

|align=center|King Dedede
|King K. Rool traps players on Donkey Kong Island and fires a laser from his Blast-o-Matic to blow up the whole island, damaging players, referencing Donkey Kong 64 where failure to shutdown the machine in Hideout Helm will result in the island’s destruction.
|King Dedede calls a group of super fast and powerful Waddle Dees, which charge into the opposing players to drag them off the screen. Waddle Doos and a Gordo appear as well. Waddle Dees do 7% damage, simply ramming with high knockback, Waddle Doos use electricity to cause 17% damage with low knockback, and Gordos do 30% damage with high knockback, but there are only ever two in the crowd. <small>3</small>

|align=center|Wario
|Wario transforms into Wario-Man gaining invincibility and causing his normal attacks to do more damage. He moves incredibly fast in this form, and his aerial attacks even give him the ability to fly (he will rise in the air whenever he performs an aerial attack, with the exception of his down aerial attack which causes him to plummet downward). After enough time has passed, he will return to normal.
|Wario eats some garlic and transforms into Wario-Man, boosting his attacks substantially. It even makes the Wario Bike attack dangerously fast. Wario is invincible during this move. Additionally, all but one of Wario's  aerials cause him to gain altitude, making chaining very easy.<small>4</small>

|
|Wario dashes forwards and opponents caught are taken to a comic book like setting. There, Wario, now transformed into Wario-Man, does a bunch of attacks on the opponents in all different directions before finishing off with a waft, launching them.
|align=center|Zero Laser
|
|align=center|Samus
|Samus charges and blasts a very large laser attack. Once an opponent is caught inside the beam, it is almost impossible to escape. They will get gradually pushed outward, until the final blast at the end, usually causing instant K.O. However, this causes Samus' armor to fall off, turning her into Zero Suit Samus. The attack does up to 78% damage. The attack can be aimed at a slight angle in either vertical direction.<small>2</small>
