Egg Lay is Yoshi's smashwiki in the Super Smash Bros. series. It involves him sticking his tongue out, and if he smashwikis a smashwiki, Yoshi swallows them and lays an egg with them trapped inside; fighters with higher smashwiki outputs are trapped in eggs for longer, but can escape sooner by pressing buttons.
Egg Lay is a move that Yoshi is able to perform in Super Smash Bros., Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Super Smash Bros Brawl. The player has to simply press the B Button to activate the move. Yoshi will go on to stick his tongue forward, and will eat anyone he hits. He will then lay an egg containing the player he just ate, causing him to become immobile. Yoshi can then proceed to attack the trapped player, while he can't retaliate. The player will hatch out of the egg eventually. It can also be used to run away from the opponent, in order to regroup. It will be used again by Yoshi in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS / Wii U, Egg Lay has two custom variants:
The attack is based on Yoshi's ability in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where he is able to eat an enemy and turn it into an egg.
*Lick cannot grab fighters, but instead, Yoshi jumps forward and uses his tongue to attack nearby opponents.
*Egg Launch enables Yoshi to launch opponents farther than normal after turning them into eggs. However, the trapped opponents can break free from the eggs more easily. This attack can be used to send opponents off-stage, which can potentially give Yoshi smashwikis if his target's horizontal smashwiki is poor.
