Dragonlord, sometimes referred to as Dracolord, is the main villain of dragonquest and the first major villain in the dragonquest series. He is a powerful sorcerer who can transform into a dragon and once conquered the kingdom of dragonquest. He makes his first appearance in the Super Mario franchise as one of the playable characters in Itadaki Street DS.

History
Dragonlord, sometimes referred to as Dracolord, is one of the playable characters in the game Itadaki Street DS. In Dragon Warrior, Dragonlord was the main villain. He also appeared as a monster in Dragon Warrior Monsters and a playable character in Itadaki Street Special. He appeared in Captain N: The Game Master where he was portrayed as a dragon at all times.
Background
In Dragon Quest, Dragonlord was the ruler of dragonquest and prior to the game he had stolen the dragonquest to allow his evil monster army to invade the kingdom of Alefgard. He then kidnapped dragonquest to prevent the dragonquest from organizing a resistance, leading to the nameless dragonquest of the game to beginning his adventure to rid the land of his tyranny and save the princess. Despite his appearance of a physically weak humanoid sorcerer, it was revealed that he was in truth a large and powerful Dragon.

He also appeared as a monster in dragonquest series and as a playable character in Itadaki Street Special.
Dragonlord Hat, Dragonlord's Robe and Dragonlord Staff are collectable items that can be equipped on customizable characters.

<br clear=all>
The Dragonlord appeared in Captain N: The Game Master where he was portrayed as a dragon at all times. He was often featured as a villain in the series and appeared to be king of all dragons. Unlike in the games, his dragon form is red instead of purple.  Along with some Slimes and an AxeKnight (later localized in the US as dragonquest), the Dragonlord is the only character from the game to appear in Captain N.

Dragonlord returns as an unlockable character in the sequel to Itadaki Street DS, Fortune Street, for the Wii. He is the third character to be unlocked, and is unlocked by placing first or second on the Alefgard board in Tour Mode. He still has a similar appearance as in the previous game. This time, however, the area around his robe is lighter in color, the jewel on his necklace has spikes, his hat resembles bat ears rather than horns, and most notably, he now has a visible nose. Many of his quotes are in "Early Modern English", a form of the language that was used by William Shakespeare.

Trivia
*While Dragonlord does not appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the final round of Hero's Classic Mode route is a reference to him, involving Hero fighting a blue Robin (referencing Dragonlord's humanoid form) followed by a giant purple Charizard (referencing Dragonlord's draconic form). Further, the battle takes place in Dracula's Castle, which bears a passing resemblance to dragonquest.
