When one of these enemies intercepts Mario, it hangs onto and appears to drain him. Mario is shown to progressively turn pale, suggesting blood loss. After Mario undergoes the enemy's attack, he drops off the rope he is currently climbing. Depending on the height reached from the ground beneath, Mario might either survive the fall or lose a life upon crashing onto the soil.
