| In 2005, a remake of the game was released for Game Boy Advance, and in 2007/2008, the original version was ported to the Wii's Virtual Console. On November 25, 2012, for reasons unknown, Donkey Kong Country 3 and its predecessors were delisted from the Wii Virtual Console, but on October 30, 2014, the games were relisted in Europe and Australia. Around the same time, the games were released for the Wii U's Virtual Console in Europe and Australia, in Japan on November 26, 2014, and in the United States and Canada on February 26, 2015. For handhelds, Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! was ported exclusively to the New Nintendo 3DS's Virtual Console in May/June 2016. It was made available on Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online for the Nintendo Switch on December 18, 2020.
| | A remake of the game was released for the Game Boy Advance on November 7, 2005 with new features, most noticeably six new stages and an all-new soundtrack designed for the Game Boy Advance sound system. Also, on December 24, 2007, the game was released on the Virtual Console for the Wii in North America. On December 25, it was released in Europe and Australia. |

| A similar game was released for the Game Boy in 1997, Donkey Kong Land III, and it has the same characters and settings.
| | ==Storyline== |
| ==Story== | | Months after the defeat of the Kremling Krew, the Kongs are still celebrating. Both Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong, with Dixie Kong occasionally joining them, often sit around the beach on hammocks with banana shakes. One day, however, Dixie Kong, surprisingly finds Diddy's room deserted. Knowing that is wasn't normal for him to be gone so early, she notices a note from Diddy on the table. After reading the note, she learns that the two had gone to the islands to explore. Dixie searches for them, expecting them to be no farther than the beach. |
|
| |
| Months after the events of Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, the Kongs were back at DK Island, still celebrating their victory over the K. Rool and the Kremlings. Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong often slung up a hammock, played some music, and drank banana milkshakes while soaking up the sun. Dixie often joined alongside them. | |
|
| |
|
| One morning, Dixie found that Diddy was not in his room. This surprised her as it was unusual for Diddy to be up so early. She found a note on a table that read:
| | Searching all day, Dixie does not find the two Kongs, thinking that she had just followed one of their schemes. Hoping that they were having fun, she goes to sleep, but only wakes up to find that Diddy is still missing. Dixie begins to worry as days pass without her seeing a trace of the two apes. Knowing that she needs to do something, Dixie heads to Wrinkly Kong. She suggests that the monkeys are with Funky Kong at his beach shop. After Wrinkly teaches Dixie about Banana Birds, the young ape heads out to find Funky's Rentals. At the rental shop, Dixie meets Funky, who explains that he has not had any customers other than Kiddy Kong. Dixie decides to bring Kiddy along with her, as she goes on a search for the missing Kongs. Funky allows them to use his Motor Boat, which they use to search for Donkey and Diddy Kong. |
| :Dear Dixie, Gone exploring the islands with DK, Back tomorrow! --Diddy
| |
|
| |
|
| Dixie recalled a few other times where Donkey Kong and Diddy had the same plan, and every time the two Kongs would never travel farther than the beach. Dixie went to look for them at the beach, soon realizing that it was too quiet for them to be nearby. As the sun set, Dixie went to bed. The next morning, Dixie checked Diddy's place and found that he had still not returned. She began worrying over what trouble that Donkey Kong and Diddy got into. The entire day passed and the Kongs still did not return. The third morning, Donkey Kong and Diddy had still not returned, so Dixie went to the southern shores of DK Island and swam to the nearest mainland at the Northern Kremisphere, looking for them.
| | |
| | The monkeys use their new boat to travel a short way off the ocean to a small lake called Lake Orangatanga. Here, they travel through many levels, in mills, by the lakeside, and in the snowy peaks. The Kongs also meet Barnacle (or Bachelor in the Game Boy Advance version) on a small island in the middle. If the Kongs search, they can even find the rare Smuggler's Cove, where a precious Banana Bird lies. At the most southeastern point of the lake, the monkeys find Belcha, a giant barrel who resides in a large, oblong-shaped barn. Once defeated, a cannon shoots the apes out of Belcha's Barn and sends them to the next area. |
|
| |
|
| Dixie briefly visits Wrinkly Kong, who confirmed that she saw Donkey Kong and Diddy pass, but Wrinkly did not know where they went. She suggested that Donkey Kong and Diddy visited Funky's Rentals. As Dixie leaves, Wrinkly asks her to search for Banana Birds along the way. | | After defeating Belcha, Dixie and Kiddy enter a dark forest known as the Kremwood Forest. Through here, they travel through several levels in the trees, mills, and riversides. The monkeys gain a banana bird when they beat Brash's record in Riverside Race. At the edge of the forest, the apes encounters a giant spider named Arich in his hollow hole in a tree. With the help of Barrels, the monkeys soon defeat Arich, leaving the Kongs with a patch. The monkeys then head over to Funky Kong to see if the patch can be made of any good use. |
|
| |
|
| When Dixie visits Funky, he is busy working on an invention, making use of the various unusual items in the shop. Funky explains to Dixie that Kiddy was the only visitor that he had all week. He points across to Kiddy, who is chewing on an old spare tire. Dixie agrees to take Kiddy along with her, and they leave. Funky tells them to look out for any random items which he can make use of, and he also tells them to visit the Brothers Bear for help.main
| | After giving the patch to Funky, he fixes up a Hover Craft for the apes to use. The Hover Craft allows to heroes to ride over rocks, thus allowing them to travel farther into the Northern Kremisphere. The duo makes their way into Cotton-Top Cove with the new vehicle. In the cove, the heroes meet the Brothers Bear, Blue, who is depressed because nobody had come to his birthday party. However, the apes are unable to cheer him up at the time and continue, where they head through a few lakes and waterfalls. They also travel across a lake shore, which is infested with Klasps. Eventually, rocks blocking the way behind a waterfall sink into the water, and the two apes are able to meet the new boss, Squirt. Once he is defeated, the heroes obtain a ski, although it doesn't have any use to Funky Kong. |
|
| |
|
| As they travel through the worlds, Dixie and Kiddy encounter different Kremlings than before. At the end of Mekanos, the Kongs first encounter KAOS, who was believed to be the new leader of the Kremling Krew at the time. Later during their adventure, Dixie and Kiddy encounter KAOS again at Kastle Kaos, which is at the end of Kaos Kore. During the battle, it is revealed that KAOS was a puppet of Baron K. Roolenstein all along. After defeating Baron K. Roolenstein, KAOS breaks down and releases Donkey Kong and Diddy. It is revealed that they were trapped to be used as a power source.
| | Still searching for Donkey and Diddy, the monkeys head to a small, polluted island known as Mekanos. They travel through many factories in this area, as well as some pipelines. They even head up a tree that is being chopped down. The duo also meets Bazooka for the first time here. The bear, if given ammunition, shoot the apes to a Banana Bird Cave. Eventually, the monkeys make it to a small building, where they meet KAOS, the supposed leader of the Kremlings. After they beat the robot, they find another ski, but not Donkey or Diddy. With both skis in hand, they head to Funky Kong, who uses the items to build a Turbo Ski. The new vehicle allows Dixie and Kiddy to travel over waterfalls. |

| The Kongs eventually discover the lost world, Krematoa, where they meet the local Brother Bear, Boomer. Dixie and Kiddy must recover the five cogs found in each level of Krematoa and return them to Boomer's Bomb Shelter. Boomer inserts them on a machine, which causes the Knautilus to rise from the center lake. Dixie and Kiddy enter it and engage in a second boss fight against Baron K. Roolenstein. The Kongs defeat him again, but Baron K. Roolenstein manages to escape again. | | The Kongs soon arrive in K3 on their search for the missing apes. After they climb to the top of this snow-capped mountain, they face harsh snow storms, and even have to travel through a waterfall. After traveling through a dangerous factory, they find the bear, Blizzard, in a small basecamp covered in snow. Helping him out, they deliver a present from him to another Brothers Bear, Blue, and then head over to the one of the highest parts of the mountain, where they meet the evil snowman, Bleak. Even after defeating him, however, the apes do not find Donkey or Diddy Kong, so they head on to new areas. |
|
| |
|
| After acquiring every DK Coin, the Kongs return to Funky's Rentals, and he builds the Gyrocopter for them. With the Gyrocopter, the Kongs can access the remaining few secret caves to the last of the Banana Birds. After freeing every Banana Bird, they carry the Kongs up in the sky to the Banana Queen. All of the Banana Birds sing to destroy the evil barrier that imprisoned the Banana Queen. Dixie and Kiddy's adventure ends with the Banana Queen pursuing after Baron K. Roolenstein and dropping a large eggshell on him.
| | They arrive next at Razor Ridge, a mountainous area filled with many caverns. After passing through one of its caves with the help of Quawks the Parrot, the apes meet Benny, who lets them use his chairlift to progress. On the other side of Razor Ridge, the two monkeys meet Björn, the brother of Benny who also runs a chairlift. Although his lifts are broken, he can fix them if he is given a wrench. The lifts help the heroes reach a Banana Bird Cave. Heading on, Dixie and Kiddy climb more of the dangerous mountains, and then cross a dark lake. After going through the final cavern and climb a little higher, they find a lake with the overgrown Lurchin, Barbos (or Kroctopus in the Game Boy Advance remake). Like Bleak, however, she does not have Donkey or Diddy, so the two monkeys head over to the last accessible area, Pacifica. |

|

| ==Gameplay==
| | When the apes first enter this world, they encounter a pipeline, which they travel through. At the other end of the pipeline, they meet Barnacle, who gives them a Banana Bird if they give him a certain shell. Heading on, the monkeys head over the lake shore and travel through a series of sunken spruce trees find get back on land. After going through a mountainous part of the world, they make their way into a bigger lake than before, where they surpass the rough underwater currents. They soon go through another set of pipes, and then come up to Barbos, a giant Lurchin. With help from Enguarde, the apes defeat this foe, although they still do not find even a trace Donkey or Diddy Kong. However, after the three areas are complete, the way into a new area, known as KAOS Kore, opens. |

| |
| Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! combines elements from both Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. As a platformer, the objective is for the two playable characters, Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong, to reach the end of every level. Each world has either five or six levels and a boss level at the end. The boss level must be completed to unlock the next world.
| |
|
| |
|
| The game retains the tag-team system, where two Kongs appear on-screen and follow each other through a level at the same time. Dixie Kong and Kiddy Kong are the playable characters, and the Kong in front is the one controlled by the player. If the lead Kong is hit by an enemy or a hazard, they run away, and the player takes control of the other Kong. If the only Kong in play is also hit, they lose an extra life and are returned to the world map, where they can re-enter the level. If a Kong is missing, they can be recovered from a DK Barrel, a few of which appear in every level. The player can press the snes button to switch between Kongs. | | The apes ride to the area in their fast Turbo Ski, where they find a large castle on the hilltop. Traveling through jungles, caverns, and riversides full of enemies, they soon make it to the hilltop. Before they can get into the castle, though, they go through a poisonous pipeline. The gases in the pipeline make it harder to progress, but luckily, the monkeys eventually make it to the castle doors and enter the building. There, they meet KAOS again, and the two sides fight. After apes soon destroy the robot once and for all, but right after, a curtain nearby opens, revealing Baron K. Roolenstein. The Kremling becomes angered on how the apes ruined his robot, and the fight with the Kongs continues. The Kremling leader is eventually bested, and Donkey and Diddy are finally revealed. It is learned that their energy had been used to power KAOS all along. Even with the two apes rescued however, the monkeys' adventure is still not over. |
|
| |
|
| Some basic moves shared between Dixie and Kiddy include swimming, jumping, and climbing. The Kongs can jump to defeat enemies or to go over small gaps. Both vertical and horizontal ropes are the objects that the Kongs can climb. Dixie and Kiddy cannot perform either move while swimming. Most enemies can also be defeated if the Kongs roll into them. The Kongs can perform a slightly longer jump by rolling off a ledge and jumping in the air.
| | After riding around the series of rocks around Mekanos, a hidden world, known as Krematoa rises out of the ocean. When the apes enter this area, they encounter more levels to explore. However, many of the levels are blocked off by large rocks, so the apes pay Boomer with their hard-earned Bonus Coins to destroy them. As the monkeys go through each of the jungle, mountain, cave, and tree levels in the world, they find several cogs, which they return to Boomer to power up one of his machines. Once all of the cogs are placed in the device, the submarine, Knautilus, rises in the lake in the center of Krematoa. The apes swim to this submarine, only to find Baron K. Roolenstein again. After they fight this enemy, the Kremling leader flees, and the apes are awarded with a DK Coin. |
|
| |
|
| | | |
| Both Dixie and Kiddy have unique abilities which only they can use. Dixie can use her Helicopter Spin to glide in midair until hitting the ground. She can also use the move on the ground to spin into enemies. Kiddy is slower, stronger, and heavier than Dixie. Kiddy can perform a roll instead of spin. Kiddy holds a barrel in front unlike Dixie, who carries a barrel over her head. By doing so, Kiddy can protect himself from an enemy, which gets defeat upon hitting into the barrel. Kiddy can throw barrels farther than Dixie. In some of the levels, Kiddy can perform a Water Skip to bounce on the water surface, often needed for reaching higher areas.
| | The DK Coin given to them becomes part of their collection of coins. After they earn all of the coins, they head over to Funky Kong, who decides to make a new vehicle for them with the DK Coins. The apes allow him to do so, and he creates a Gyrocopter. As they apes explore the area in this helicopter, they come up to the Banana Bird Queen, who had been imprisoned by Baron K. Roolenstein. The queen, trapped, asks the heroes to hunt for each of her children, the Banana Birds, who are the only way to break the Banana Bird Barriers. They Kongs do so and soon head to Wrinkly, where the birds are kept. When they arrive, the birds pick up the two monkeys and lift them up to the Banana Bird Queen's location. With the birds finally united, the queen is freed from her barrier. In exchange for helping her, the Banana Bird Queen chases Baron K. Roolenstein out of the Northern Kremisphere once and for all. |
|
| |
|
| A few of the moves involve both Kongs. The team up move involves Dixie or Kiddy carrying the other Kong on their shoulders, whom they can throw at another enemy or area. The team up works differently depending on which Kong is held. Dixie cannot move fast by carrying Kiddy due to his weight. She can throw Kiddy at a crack in the ground to break it open, allowing them to enter a small area. Dixie can throw Kiddy to a wall and ride onto him to perform a Roll Attack involving both Kongs. Kiddy can carry Dixie around with ease. He can throw Dixie farther, although she is not heavy enough to break parts of the ground. If Kiddy throws Dixie to a higher platform, both Kongs can move up to there.
| | ==Kong Abilities== |
| | |
| | The object of the game is to reach the end of every level, however, this cannot be done without the apes using some of their trademark abilities. The two Kongs, Kiddy and Dixie, both have different special abilities, although their basic abilities are mostly the same. Both apes are able to swim, jump, climb, and move. They can use their jumping abilities to defeat enemies or cross gaps, and also use their climbing abilities to maneuver on the game's various ropes. When swimming, however, neither of these moves can be used. Another way to attack on land besides jumping is rolling. The attack can knock foes off of the stage easily, although some enemies, such as Bristles, are almost completely immune to this attack. Additionally, if the apes are to roll off of a ledge and jump in mid air, they preform a super-jump. The duo is also able to balance on moving Steel Kegs, which ram into foes are they ride on it. |
|
| |
|
| The game features greatly expanded map gameplay compared to the previous and following Donkey Kong Country installments. Unlike previous games where the world maps consisted entirely of linear paths, Donkey Kong Country 3 allows players to freely move while piloting their vehicle on the overworld or in water section of the world maps. This feature allows players to go off the intended path and explore sections of the map to reveal hidden Secret caves. The player's original vehicle, the Motor Boat can initially only access a limited portion of the overworld but as the player progress and defeat bosses, they will collect items that will upgrade the boat and allow it to reach further sections of the map. The game also features a greater amount of sidequests. The Northern Kremisphere is inhabited by the Brothers Bear, who usually challenge the Kongs to bring them an object or complete some task. Completing the Brothers Bear's errands will reward the Kongs with hints on the game's secrets and items necessary for 103% Completion. | | |
| | As stated before, both apes have different special abilities. The most notable ability, used by Dixie Kong, is the Helicopter Twirl, which Kiddy Kong is unable to perform. This move allows Dixie to propel through the air until she hits the ground. Although Kiddy doesn't have this move, his strength makes up for the loss. He can throw barrels much faster than Dixie, as well as defeat foes that his partner cannot defeat alone. Another advantage Kiddy has is how he holds objects such as barrels. While Dixie holds objects over her head, Kiddy Kong holds them in front of his body, protecting himself. Therefore, if an enemy is to hit into him as he holds an object, it is likely that the attack won't hurt him at all, and it defeats the foe instead. Although not used too often in the game, Kiddy can also jump on water a few times while rolling. This can help the heroes reach high areas atop the water. |

| {|class="wikitable dk" style="width:100%; text-align:center" | | There are also some moves that both Kongs are needed to use, such as the Team-up move. When using this move, one monkey picks up the other and puts them on his or her shoulders. Then, they can throw that monkey into enemies or into high areas. Because of Kiddy's weight, Dixie is hardly able to hold the large ape. As a result, she cannot throw him too far. However, if she throws him upwards and lets him fall onto the ground, the toddler can break through the ground and finds hidden items. When Kiddy teams up with Dixie and carries her, he is able to easily maneuver around, as he is quite strong. He can also throw her much farther, although she cannot break through the ground. Additionally, when both Kongs are around, Dixie can throw Kiddy into a wall, causing the toddler to bounce back. When this happens, she can jump on him as if he were a Steel Keg and ram into most enemies. |

| | ==Special Areas== |
| | Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! is filled with with various special areas, where the heroes can meet the other Kongs and Brothers Bears around the island to help out. |
| | |
| | |
| | *Banana Bird Caves: Each of these caves contain a Banana Bird. However, the only way to get the bird is to hit a series of crystals in the right order. |
| | *Brothers Bear Cabins: There are several cabins in the game, one for each of the Brothers Bears. In them, the apes can talk to the bears and help them complete a trade to earn Banana Birds. |
| | *Funky's Rentals: This is where the apes can rent vehicles made by Funky Kong to travel through the Northern Kremisphere. He allows them to use his Motor Boat at the beginning of the game, but after the apes gather up special items for him, he is able to make a Hover Craft, a Turbo Ski, and a Gyrocopter for them to ride in. In the Game Boy Advance remake of the game, Funky hosts Bonus Games with some of those vehicles. If they are all completed, a Banana Bird is earned. |
| | *Cranky's Dojo: Exclusive to the Game Boy Advance remake, Cranky's Dojo replaces Wrinkly's Save Cave from the original version of the game. The heroes can meet Cranky Kong here and play a special Bonus Game for a Banana Bird at the price of only two Bear Coins. The game involves moving Cranky Kong so that he can block the incoming Spinies. |
| | *Swanky's Dash: Another area exclusive to the Game Boy Advance remake. It replaces Swanky's Sideshow from the original game. At Swanky's Dash, Dixie Kong can play a Bonus Game for a few Bear Coins, where she must run through a pipeline, avoiding obstacles and trying to collect a certain number of stars. If the Bonus Game is completed, the apes earn some special collectibles. |
| | *Swanky's Sideshow: This is where the monkeys can play another special Bonus Game, exclusively found in the Super Nintendo version of the game. For only a few Bear Coins, the apes can face Cranky here in a ball tossing Bonus Game. |
| | *Wrinkly's Save Cave: This area, only found in the original version of the game, is where the Kongs' game can be saved. One appears in each word, as well as in the overworld. Wrinkly is always found here, and she is either exercising, playing her Nintendo 64, or sleeping. |
| | *Wrinkly's Retreat: This area is located just before Funky's Rentals. It is where Wrinkly resides throughout the game. The Kongs' Banana Birds are kept here. |

| | ==Animal Buddies== |
| | As with every Donkey Kong Country game, Animal Buddies appear to help out the monkeys. Several old friends return in Donkey Kong Country 3, such as Enguarde, Squawks, and Squitter, and several new ones appear, such as Ellie and Parry. Each buddy helps the apes in a different way, but are only found in certain levels. Below shows the game's Animal Buddies, along with their abilities and their first and last level appearances. |

| | |Ellie the Elephant is a new Animal Buddy that replaces Rambi from the first two games. Ellie is not as strong as Rambi, but she can pick up and suck barrels towards her, which is a useful technique for defeating certain enemies. She can also suck up water from lakes and waterfalls to shoot at enemies. Unfortunately, she is afraid of Sneeks, and she runs away from them at first sight. Ellie is also used in the boss fight against Squirt. |

While it is helpful in some cases (eating enemies such as Kocos), it can also attack the heroes if not properly fed. Feeding it Lurchins makes the fish more likely to attack the apes, and not feeding it at all can also make it attack them. |

| | |Parry is a new non-playable Animal Buddy that is a big help to the Kongs, in terms of finding hidden objects. As his name suggests, he is always parallel to the Kongs and usually has enemies waiting for him. He can easily defeat Booty Birds, but can be defeated by any other enemy, especially Buzzes. The Kongs go though many challenges to reach the buddy's No Animal Sign, but if they do make it to the sign, the monkeys usually get a large reward, such as a blue Extra Life Balloon or Bonus Barrel. |

| | ===Brothers Bear Items=== |
| | The game features several items that must be traded between the Brothers Bears in order for the Kongs to collect all of the Banana Birds. Although they are of no use to the apes, they are required to trade if the heroes want to complete their adventure 100%. Note that some items are earned from defeating bosses and do not need to be traded with the bears. Some items must also be traded differently in the Game Boy Advance version. | ===Trade items=== | |
| The game features several items that must be traded between the Brothers Bear in order for the Kongs to collect all of the Banana Birds. They are required to trade if the Kongs want to complete their adventure completely. Note that some items are earned from defeating bosses and do not need to be traded with the bears. Unlike Koins, they are not stationary; they chase after the apes with their shields, trying to knock them into gaps and other foes, much like Knockas. | ==Codes==
| |
| | |
| Players can initiate the code-entering screen by pressing the following sequence at the file selection screen: SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES SNES. Some codes are permanently attached to a file if entered before starting a new game.
| |
| *LIVES – Players are given 50 lives. Entering it before starting a new profile will result in players being ranked "Cheatin' Chump" after beating the final boss.
| |
| *ASAVE – The game automatically saves after each level. Entering it before starting a new profile will result in players being ranked "Cheatin' Chump" after beating the final boss.
| |
| *MERRY – All the bonus levels will have a Christmas theme, turning stars into ornaments and green bananas into presents. Additionally, different bonus level music will play. If entered before starting a new file, the effects will be permanent to that file; if entered before starting an existing file, the effect only lasts until the game is reset.
| |
| *COLOR – Dixie and Kiddy Kong's clothing will turn purple and green, respectively. This also affects the Level Flag. Dixie's gum (seen during her idle animation) will turn from pink to purple. Some enemy artwork seen after entering a Bonus Barrel is changed, and the mirror is now green. Dixie Kong's Photo Album and the credits remain unaltered. If entered before starting a new file, the effects will be permanent to that file; if entered before starting an existing file, the effect only lasts until the game is reset.
| |
| *MUSIC – Enters Dixie Kong's Music Test, where players can choose any in-game music to listen to.
| |
| *WATER – Allows the player to enter the waterfall left of Bazaar's General Store, where there is a secret cave. If the player wins the game, all 85 Bonus Coins will be earned. If entered before starting a new file, the player will always be allowed to enter the waterfall; if entered after starting an existing file, the player can only enter the waterfall until the game is reset.
| |
| *ERASE – The record times for completing the game will be reset.
| |
| *HARDR – 29 of the 139 DK Barrels will be removed. This code must be entered before starting a new file to work. If the game is fully beaten with this code activated from the start, the player will have a score of 104% instead of the standard 103%.
| |
| *TUFST – All the Star Barrels are removed. If entered before starting a new file, almost all the DK Barrels will additionally be removed; the effects will be permanent to that file. If entered before starting an existing file, the effect only lasts until the game is reset. If the game is fully beaten with this code activated from the start, the player will have a score of 105% instead of the standard 103%.

| |
| Note: This glitch only occurs in the SNES, Wii U, and Nintendo Switch Online versions. It was fixed in the Game Boy Advance version.
| |
| | |
| This glitch can be done in Creepy Caverns. To activate this glitch, the player needs to get to the point in the level where Koin is and knock him out then they need to continue onward until the find a Knocka behind two Red Buzzes. Jump down with the Knocka following, then jump on him and carry the Knocka back using Kiddy until a small ditch can be seen next to a Red Buzz and the Boo Barrel next to it. Once the Knocka is dropped into this ditch, it will begin to behave erratically, instantly going back inside of its barrel when it hits the wall on the right in the ditch due to the limited space for the enemy. The player can further interact with this glitched Knocka with the steel keg nearby, which can cause additional glitches, such as arbitrarily jumping to the game's credits or irregularity/anti-piracy screens if the Knocka's limbs touches the steel keg, or cause sprites to disappear due to the Knocka being continously hit by the steel keg.

| |align="left"|"Aside from the few new features, DKC3 is pretty much just like the second game. Many people haven't played this one, but if you liked the previous two, you won't be disappointed. One would argue that it's slightly worse than DKC2, but it is still very much worthy of your attention."

| | |Barbos is a large Lurchin who resides in the area, Razor Ridge. However, she is fought in Pacifica in the Game Boy Advance version of the game. The Kongs must use Enguarde the Swordfish to defeat Barbos, as she is underwater in a red lake. She attacks by sending out Lurchins at Enguarde. Enguarde must smash the Lurchins into the spike balls of Barbos. Once Barbos's body is exposed as a result, Enguarde can smash her body. Barbos can also shoot out shell missiles, which Enguarde can lead to her to attack. After that, she sends spikes that Enguarde must avoid. |
| |align="left"|"Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble holds up very well as a great SNES side-scrolling platformer adventure, even 11 years after its original release. And while its predecessor, Diddy's Kong Quest, is likely a better game overall, DKC3 probably holds more value as a Virtual Console download for the large amount of Nintendo fans who early-adopted with the N64 and therefore missed this final installment in the Country trilogy in its first mid-'90s appearance. If you enjoyed the first two Donkey Kong Country games and never got around to this one, confidently put down 800 Wii Points and give it a download. If you're completely new to the DKC series, start with either the original or DKC2 and see what you think there. Then, if you like what you see, come back here and then confidently put down 800 Wii Points to give DKC3 a download. It's a game that deserves to now be noticed, where once it was overlooked." | |

| | |Kroctopus replaces Barbos in Razor Ridge in the Game Boy Advance version of the game. The Kongs cannot fight the submerged green creature; instead, they must lead the bombs Kroctopus sends out into the clawed tentacles. After being caught in the bombs several times, Kroctopus gets angrier and attacks faster; however, he can still be defeated the same way. |

| | |The game's final boss, Baron K. Roolenstein, is fought in Kastle KAOS just shortly after KAOS is dispatched by the Kongs. Baron K. Roolenstein uses jetpacks to fly around using blasts of electricity to attack the Kongs. The Kongs need to pull a pipe on the ceiling to make a barrel appear. The barrel can then be thrown at Baron K. Roolenstein's jetpack several times to defeat him. He can also be fought again at Krematoa using a fireball launching cannon as well as bolts of electricity to battle the Kongs. He is fought in a similar way here. |

| ===Sales===
| |
| Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! had fewer sales than the previous two Donkey Kong Country games because it was released at the end of the Super Nintendo's lifespan, and the Nintendo 64 was released the same year. The game was positively received although the soundtrack received a mixed reception.

| ==Nintendo eShop description== | | ==Differences in the GBA Port== |
| <blockquote>Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have gone missing! As Dixie Kong checks in with the rest of the family, she gets stuck with babysitting duties! But that won't stop her from going on her next adventure!
| | There are many differences between the Super Nintendo version and the Game Boy Advance version. |
|
| |
|
| Play as Dixie Kong or Kiddy Kong solo, against a friend, or with a friend! Take advantage of each of their unique abilities as they throw each other into action in over 40 levels. There are plenty of collectibles—including Bear Coins, which grant access to the services of the Brothers Bear, and Banana Birds, which Wrinkly Kong has a deep fondness for. | | |
| | *Wrinkly Kong is now only located in Wrinkly's Retreat, between Funky's Rentals and Bazaar's General Store. Banana Birds are kept in this area. |
| | *Cranky's Dojo replaces Wrinkly's Save Cave from the original Donkey Kong Country 3. At the dojo, the Kongs can play a Bonus Game to earn a Banana Bird. |
| | *The original soundtrack of the game, which is notably darker in tone in most of the levels, has been replaced by a lighter-toned soundtrack composed by David Wise, who composed the soundtrack of the first two Donkey Kong Countries, but only had a limited involvement with the soundtrack of the third on the Super Nintendo, which was in majority composed by Eveline Fischer. |
| | *The Brother Bear, Barnacle, is relocated to Pacifica, while Bachelor, a new character that only appears in this port, now takes residence in Lake Orangatanga. |
| | *Anytime after completing Mekanos, the player can visit Bramble to earn a Banana Bird. |
| | *New objects, such as the box of chocolates, have been added to trade amongst the Brothers Bears. Some items must also be traded differently. |
| | *Like in the first two Game Boy Advance remakes for the series, the supporting Kongs have Bonus Games for the heroes to complete. Funky Kong has four new Bonus Games, although the types of games available depends on how many vehicles the heroes can rent, while Cranky and Swanky both have a single Bonus Game. |
| | *Swanky Kong wears the same attire that he wears in Donkey Kong Country 2, unlike in the original, where his outfit is different. |
| | |
| | *The game introduces the new area, Pacifica, which is the seventh world of the game, located between Razor Ridge and KAOS Kore. The world carries six new levels, as well as all new Bonus Level locations. |
| | *After beating Mekanos and Cotton-Top Cove, the player has the option of playing through either K3, Razor Ridge, or Pacifica to progress, although they all must be completed to beat the game. |
| | *Barbos has been relocated to Pacifica while Kroctopus, a new boss, now inhabits Razor Ridge. |
| | *The houses that the Brothers Bears live in, as well as the bears themselves, have been redesigned. Also, the same music is heard in every house and no longer changes according to the bear. (The music piece is also heard in Funky's Rentals, Swanky's Dash, and Wrinkly's Retreat.) |
| | *There are now five extra Banana Birds to collect, increasing the total to twenty. |
| | *The game also borrows several elements from Donkey Kong Land III, the original Game Boy counterpart to the Super Nintendo version. These include automatically getting the DK Coin after defeating the Koin. |
| | *Oddly, Blizzard is now a grizzly bear, as opposed to the original, where he is a polar bear. |
| | *The boss, Squirt, has more attacks and has been made harder to defeat. |
| | *When a DK Coin is collected, it tells the player how many more are left. |
| | *The world maps show a closer view of the Kongs than in the original. |
| | *When Knautilus is unlocked in the Super Nintendo version, the background of areas in Krematoa turns red. However, this does not happen in the Game Boy Advance version. |
| | *The final level, Rocket Rush, has an increased difficulty, as red Buzzes damage the Rocket Barrel when touched, and there is no Star Barrel at any point of the stage. |
|
| |
|
| You can also call on Funky Kong to build some wild vehicles for you to try to get to places that seem far out of reach. Not to mention there are animal friends to fight at your side! The final showdown takes place in a cliff-top laboratory at the End of the World. | | ==Image Gallery== |

| *This is the only Donkey Kong Country game not to have a Time Attack mode in any version, despite Riverside Race being the only time attack level of the original Donkey Kong Country trilogy. | | *The game was placed 23rd in the 100th issue of Nintendo Power's "100 best Nintendo games of all time" in 1997. |
| *After defeating KAOS for the first time, Dixie and Kiddy use pipes as a short-cut to leave Mekanos, similar to the way pipes are used in the Super Mario Bros. series.
| |
| *Even though the lives counter stops at 99, players can collect more than 99 lives. The counter remains at 99 until the player has fewer than 99 lives. This carries over from the previous game.

| *By pressing snes while in a Motor Boat, Hover Craft, or Turbo Ski, the Kongs will honk the vehicle's horn. By holding snes and then pressing snes and snes, the vehicle's honk will honk out a different tune. The Motor Boat honks out "La Cucaracha", the Hover Craft honks out "Gangplank Galleon", and the Turbo Ski honks out the theme of "Hawaii Five-O (1968 TV series)".
| |
| *Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! received two manga based around it: one in the series 4koma Gag Battle, and the other in the series 4koma Manga Kingdom.
