Direction Switches are objects that appear in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and its Nintendo Switch remake. They are buttons that act very similarly to switches from Donkey Kong for the Game Boy. Two red lights are on either side of a Direction Switch, with one being lit to indicate the direction of conveyor belts and moving platforms. Mario can jump on a Direction Switch to press it, reversing the direction of these objects. Donkey Kong also uses Direction Switches in some of his battles, using them to change the direction of conveyor belts at specific times.

Direction Switches (originally referred to as switches) are lever-like objects that appear in Donkey Kong for the Game Boy. They are used to control conveyor belts, moving platforms and elevators. They can also be used to make bridges appear and disappear, as well as opening and closing gates. The player can pull switches by walking up to them and holding the B button while moving Mario with the D-Pad in the desired direction. In some boss stages, Donkey Kong Jr. will also operate switches to hinder Mario's progress.

In the remake, Direction Switches are slightly redesigned to further their resemblance to Color Switches. The button is now colored white while the light indicators are now yellow and larger, making their indication much clearer to the player. Similar objects known as conveyor switches appear in future games in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series.

In Mario vs. Donkey Kong, Direction Switches act much like how the switches do in Donkey Kong, being used to control the direction of conveyor belts and moving platforms. However, they are activated by jumping on them. Donkey Kong also uses Direction Switches in some of his battles, using them to change the direction of conveyor belts at specific times.

Direction Switches also apear in Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Minis March Again!, Mario vs Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem! and Mario vs Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars where they are green, rectangular buttons with arrows facing to the right and left imprinted on them. Tapping them on the touch screen reverses the direction of all Conveyors(And, in the case of the latter two games, Purple Conveyors) in the level.
