The Delfino Airstrip is a seaside location where tourists first come to when visiting Isle Delfino by plane. It is a simple landing strip built on small islets in the waters near Delfino Plaza. Travelers can reach the mainland via small boats.
History
Delfino Airstrip Dilemma
Delfino Airstrip is the first area encountered in Super Mario Sunshine, and is the place where FLUDD is encountered as well as where the first Shine Sprite is encountered. It cannot be revisited until after the player gains access to Corona Mountain. After entering the mountain (it is not necessary to complete it; the player may simply pause the game and select "Exit Area" to leave), the player can pay ten coins to a Pianta at Delfino Plaza to ride a boat to the airstrip.

Nozzles
The Delfino Airstrip is where tourists first come to when visiting Isle Delfino, as this is where planes land. It is a simple landing strip built on small islets in the waters near Delfino Plaza. Travelers can reach the mainland via small boats.

Super Smash Bros. series
Super Mario Sunshine
Delfino Airstrip only makes a small background appearance in the Super Smash Bros. series in the Delfino Plaza stage, which appears in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The airstrip's model seems to be largely simplified from its appearance in Super Mario Sunshine, in that it simply looks like a floating block in the ocean.
When Mario, Princess Peach, and Toadsworth landed here, the plane almost crashed since Goop was smackdab in the middle of the airstrip. When Toadsworth asked Mario to gather information about the situation, he instead found F.L.U.D.D, who proved to be invaluable in getting rid of the Goop. Peach also sees Shadow Mario at the airstrip. Mario and F.L.U.D.D then started squirting the Goop until all that was left was the center, which couldn't be cleaned away as easily. Out came a huge Piranha Plant, which Mario had to defeat by squirting into its open mouth three times with F.L.U.D.D. When the plant was beaten, all the Goop cleared away, the shining center platform rose and out came a Shine Sprite.

Profiles
It wasn't until Mario defeated Bowser and Bowser Jr. that he would have come back to the Airstrip. There he would collect Red Coins and earn another Shine Sprite. Also, when he came back to the Airstrip it was covered with Strollin' Stus. Alternatively, it is possible for Mario to visit the Airstrip before defeating Bowser - the player simply has to enter Corona Mountain and leave again, and the boat to the Airstrip will be available.

Underground Theme
The Delfino Airstrip is a simple landing strip built on small islets in the waters near Delfino Plaza. Travelers can reach the mainland via small boats.
The "Delfino Airstrip" theme is an elongated arrangement of the "Underground Theme" from Super Mario Bros. played on strings and piano backed by tropical percussion. When the player returns to the airstrip, "Isle Delfino" plays instead.

Trivia
<br clear=all>
*After completing the game and going back to the airstrip, the Guide Book will erroneously display Mario's location as being in Delfino Plaza. The airstrip is considered a submap of the plaza because its 100 Coin Shine is also the same as the 100-Coin Shine for Delfino Plaza. The Blue Coin on the airstrip is also counted as part of Delfino Plaza's Blue Coin count.
Isle Delfino
*Through an elaborate glitch, it is possible for Mario to have the Turbo Nozzle when playing Delfino Airstrip for the first time. If he attempts to bust down the wooden doors this way, the game crashes.
