Dark Koopas debut in ''[[Paper Mario]]'', appearing solely in [[Toad Town Tunnels]] like the [[Gloomba]] family. They attack using stronger versions of normal Koopa Troopas' attacks. Additionally, sometimes while idling they will grin, jog in place, and occasionally spin around, signaling that they are preparing a special attack that can make [[Mario]] [[dizzy]]. They sometimes perform this for multiple consecutive turns, thus leaving Mario stuck and requiring his partner to attack. Like normal Koopa Troopas, they are rendered temporarily helpless if knocked onto their backs.
