The '''Crystal Stars''' (known as '''Star Crystals'''<ref>https://youtu.be/VDMEQrZ92IA?t=68</ref> in the demo disk of the game) are the seven magical relics [[Mario]] and his [[Party member|partners]] are after in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'' and its [[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Nintendo Switch)|Nintendo Switch remake]], and are the game's objectives. Upon collecting one, it will teach Mario a [[Star Power#Special Moves 2|Special Move]]. When all seven are collected and shown at the pedestal in [[Rogueport Underground]], they will open [[the Thousand-Year Door]] to the [[Palace of Shadow]].  

The stars were created by the [[Shadow Queen]] to hold the essence of the heavens and were placed in several locations to further expand her power.<ref>"''In order to increase its already formidable power the demon created Crystal Stars to hold the essence of the heavens. In the ''[[Super Mario-kun]]'' adaptation of ''The Thousand-Year Door'', the Crystal Stars are actual sentient characters, in a way similar to the [[Star Spirits]].

The Crystal Stars also look similar to and have the same role as the [[Star Piece (Super Mario RPG)|Star Piece]]s in ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]''.
