The Crystal King is an enemy Mario had to face before his final confrontation with Bowser in Paper Mario. The Crystal King guarded the last Star Spirit, Kalmar, in the Crystal Palace. The Crystal King's body is invisible and he can also make his cloak and crown invisible too. The Crystal King can fly, summon Crystal Bits and shoot ice beams. When he gets desperate, he begins cloning himself and recovering HP.

The Crystal King is the seventh boss in Paper Mario. He is an invisible crystal being who guards the seventh and final Star Spirit, Kalmar, in the Crystal Palace.
The Crystal King is incredibly powerful and Mario's survival is not guaranteed. If not beaten quick enough, the Crystal King will recover twenty HP at least three times. Mario should equip badges that can bypass defense, as well and multi-strike badges. Watt comes in handy because her main attack can breach defense and doesn't use FP. When the Crystal King clones himself, Mario should use any multi-strike items he has (items such as Thunder Rage). The special attacks Time Out and Star Storm are also necessary.

History
When Mario defeats him, the Crystal King says, "Oh no! The last Star Spirit!! King Bowser, forgive meeeeeeeee!!". He then spins out of control and disappears while sparks are flying away from him.

The Crystal King appears at the end of the Crystal Palace, which Mario visits during Chapter 7. He suddenly reveals himself when Mario approaches him, and declares that he will defeat and freeze Mario and hand him over to Bowser, before engaging Mario in battle.

Crystal King has three phases. In his first phase (between 70 and 36 HP), he will only attack using the Crystal Bits. In his second phase (between 35 and 21 HP), he will stop using Crystal Bits, and instead shoot freezing beams and create fake clones with whom he can make a stronger blizzard attack if not dispelled in time. If the Crystal Bits were defeated prior to his attack, he will shoot ice beams in the first phase. In his third phase (below 21 HP), he will also make himself and his illusions levitate. When beneath 38 HP, the Crystal King can also recover 20 HP up to twice, however, this will not revert him to an earlier phase.

*Tattle: He's one of Bowser's main guys. I don't know how he managed to take over this palace, but... He'll attack you by summoning and launching Crystal Bits. The power of each attack is 4. The number of times he attacks equals the number of Crystal Bits he's deployed. He'll also try to freeze you whenever he can. When his HP is low, he may try to divide and conquer. The power of this attack is 8. You can hurt him only by attacking his real body. If you don't know which one's the main body, you should attack all of them. Pretty brilliant, eh?

When Mario defeats him, Crystal King says: "Oh no! The last Star Spirit!! King Bowser, forgive meeeeeeeee!!" before spinning and disappearing in a flurry of sparks.
*Attacks:<br>Crystal Bit Toss: Swallows Crystal Bits and spits them at Mario. Does 4 damage per hit.<br>Ice Bolt: Shoots a bolt of ice at Mario. Does 6 damage and can freeze Mario.<br>Mist: After the king duplicates himself, he and the fake kings will blow ice at Mario. Does 8 damage.

Like the other bosses, Crystal King appears in the parade at the end during the credits. Two Duplighosts are impersonating him. The real Crystal King removes their disguises and proceeds to berate them until he is carried away by his Crystal Bits, much to his surprise.
Crystal King Copy's Stats
*HP 70
*Attack 5
*Defense 0
*Tattle: I think this is a deceptive duplicate of the Crystal King. Since it's just an illusion, all of your attacks will just go through it. Just a reminder, Mario... You must damage the real one.

The Crystal King also makes an appearance in volume 27 of Super Mario-kun. Before the fight, the Crystal King announces his presence by using Ice Bolt to freeze Kooper. The Crystal King borrows his attacks from the original game, such as hurling Crystal Bits and creating duplicates of himself. After an assortment of attacks — including Mario's use of smelly clothing — Kooper uses a flaming shell to defeat the Crystal King.

*Defense 0
*Tattle: This is a Crystal Bit. Basically, Crystal Bits are just pieces of the Crystal King. You can drop 'em with ease. Their Max HP is 1 and they're only dangerous when the Crystal King spews 'em out. Their defense power is 0. These guys are pretty weak. They'll keep coming, though, until you've finally beaten the Crystal King.

*Although Crystal King is not weak to fire, he has no Defense Power towards it. This creates a rare situation where Fire Shell will deal more damage than expected, but not Fire Flowers.
