Crumbling Cavern is the fourth world of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars. | Crumbling Cavern is the fourth world of Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars. As with other worlds in the game, Crumbling Cavern introduces a new mechanic, which is a pair of Movable Pipes that can be picked up and repositioned in preset locations to suit the needs. Once a Mini toy enters one of these pipes, it will be warped out of the other one in a different area. All other mechanics that debuted in previous worlds make a return in this world, though without as much focus put on them. The only enemy species introduced in Crumbling Cavern, Fire Piranha Plants, are able to spit fireballs that bounce off the opposing surface and return to the sender, repeating the attack. Other enemies found in this world are Cannon Kongs and a single Shy Guy.
Crumbling Cavern occurs inside a vast and heavily-rugged underground zone, littered with boulders and other mineral formations. Several pipes are spread between the rocks, and sewage flowing from a grated drain can be seen in the far background, sometimes obscured by other elements. The gloomy, indigo-hued environment, along with its cave and sewer themes, are reminiscent of the underground levels of most Super Mario games. This is aided by the soundtrack that plays in most of its levels, which is an arrangement of the from Super Mario Bros. that is also the theme of Secret Storage from Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem!
