Coral Capers is the fourth level of Donkey Kong Country and of the first world, Kongo Jungle. It is the first underwater level, taking place in a coral reef. As with other underwater levels, Coral Capers has no Bonus Levels. Coral Capers is the first level where Enguarde appears, and Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong can optionally ride Enguarde to have him help defeat a variety of aquatic enemies encountered along the way, such as Bitesizes and Chomps. A second Enguarde can be found right after the Continue Barrel.
Coral Capers is the fourth level of Donkey Kong Country. It is also the fourth level, and the first underwater level, taking place in the beach on the coast of the Kongo Jungle.

This level is the first one where the player will have to control the Kongs by swimming. As only the fourth level in the game, the level has no tough obstacles, and is considerably quite short. In fact, like the other underwater levels, this one features no Bonus Levels at all. Although the level may seem a bit normal and plain, two Enguardes appear in different parts of the level to add more excitement. These swordfish friend can be a big help on the Kongs' quest. Enemies here include the basic underwater enemies, Bitesizes, Croctopi, Chomps Jr., Chomps and Clambos, who all make their first appearance in this stage.

At the beginning of the level, the Kongs swim through a wide underwater area containing a few Bitesizes and the level's first DK Barrel. A pathway leading north to the letter K and another area is ahead after a pair of Bitesizes. A channel stretching to the right of the letter K allows the heroes to access a square-shaped area with a large, coral structure in the center of it. A Croctopus swims around the area in a circular pattern. Another channel in this area leads to a large, open section with a lone Bitesize in it. An alcove at the bottom of the area, as hinted by a group of bananas shaping a down arrow, is where the animal crate with Enguarde is located. The swordfish can aid the Kongs as they head north through a long passage, making their way into another square-shaped area with a coral structure in the center of it. A Croctopus circles this structure, which has a Life Balloon to the right of it. A channel in the left part of this area leads to a wobbling DK Barrel and a curvy passage that takes the Kongs into a wide section with a few Bitesizes. The Continue Barrel is farther into the area, next to a passage facing south.

In the second half of the level, three gaps are above this passage: the one farthest to the left contains a Banana Bunch, the one in the middle holds the letter O, and the alcove on the far right carries a single banana. Once the heroes head down the aforementioned passage, they access another square-shaped section with a piece of land in the center of it. As before, a Croctopus circles the area. An animal crate containing the second Enguarde also sits in the corner of this area, which the heroes can exit with the use of a small channel that helps them reach a wider area with a Chomps Jr. and a DK Barrel in it. A passage facing north immediately follows this barrel with a few Chomps swimming around in it. The heroes can find a hidden pathway over a wall to enter a hidden alcove containing a Expresso Token. Once the heroes reach the top of this passage, they can find the letter N and a channel with a wider area on the opposite side of it. Several Bitesizes swim through here. The long pathway widens even more after they pass a Clambo in an alcove. In this wider section, two structures can be seen in the center of the area with a Croctopus circling them. The Kongs can nab the letter G between them. An exit sign stands nearby, and once the heroes pass it, they complete the level.

At the beginning of this underwater level, the Kong must swim to the east and dodge few Bitesizes. After getting past the third foes, they should follow up the path north and find the letter K, then travel east again. They will have to watch out for the quick Croctopus treading through the water, and later swim down between the bright coral to find a crate with Enguarde the Swordfish in it. With the fish, the group must continue up the path and dodge another Croctopus. Going east from there will take them to a DK Barrel and shortly after, the Star Barrel.
The following enemies, all debuting in this level, appear in the following quantities:

From this halfway point, they must follow a formation of bananas making an arrow. When they go south, they will need to be on the look out for another Croctopus, as well as another crate containing Enguarde. Soon, the Kongs and their Animal Buddy must head left and shortly after make a turn up north. They will have to avoid a few Chomps on the way up, but that shouldn't be a problem with the help of Enguarde. At the top of the area, the monkeys will need to turn east and journey through that part of the coral reef. They will have to avoid several Bitesizes here, followed by another Croctopus, who will be seen orbiting a sunken platform. The letter G is around this area, too. Soon, the heroes will notice an exit sign, and have to carry on a little farther to exit the level.

K-O-N-G Letters
*K: The letter K is in an alcove at the top of the first passage that faces north.
*O: The letter O is in a small alcove above a Chomps Jr. next to the Continue Barrel.
*N: The letter N is located at the top of a passage found immediately after the third DK Barrel in the level.
*G: Near the end of the level, the Kongs can find an arrow sign pointing to a nearby exit. The letter G is in a small channel nearby around a Croctopus.

Key items
*Photograph (Game Boy Advance version only): When Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong find the letter G, they must swim directly below it to enter a hidden area with the photograph, which shows a picture of Donkey Kong for the scrapbook.

Warp Barrel
Coral Capers has a Warp Barrel exclusively in the Game Boy Advance version. When the Kongs find the first Croctopus in the level, they must swim down towards it to reach a large area filled with bananas. At the bottom-right of the area, the Kongs can enter into the hidden Warp Barrel, which takes them to the end of the level.
