The glider first appears in ''[[Mario Kart 8]]'' and ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe]]''. It offers a slight boost in acceleration and air handling while slightly lowering the weight and the air speed stats. In ''Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'', a CPU [[Lakitu]] occasionally uses this glider during races.

The Cloud Glider returns in ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]'' as a High-End glider. It was introduced in the [[Tokyo Tour]] and became the signature glider of [[Waluigi|Waluigi (Bus Driver)]] in the [[Mario vs. Luigi Tour]]. Striking opponents with [[Lightning]] grants more points when using this glider. The Cloud Glider also has four other variants, named the [[Rainy Balloons]], [[Blizzard Balloons]], [[Sunset Balloons]], and [[Aurora Balloons]]. The [[Tropical Balloons]] glider is also a counterpart to this glider. All five gliders are also classified as High-End gliders.
