While [[Princess Peach]] is organizing a matchmaking date between the islander [[Chirako]] and [[Yoshi]], inviting the former to the Mushroom Kingdom, [[Wario]] targets the island with the intention of stealing its [[Treasure (Wario franchise)|treasures]]. Chirako quickly departs for the Mushroom Kingdom to ask for help, but Wario follows her and, after she encounters [[Mario]] and Yoshi, he tries to trap all three of them in a pit with Tetriminos. Wario fails in his plan and returns to the island.

In chapter 10 of [[Super Mario-kun Volume 10|Volume 10]], Mario, Yoshi, and Chirako depart for the island on the [[Marine Pop]]; once there, they discover that the citizens have been buried in the sand and Wario is tied up and [[Tiny Wario|de-powered]]: before their arrival, the island was also attacked by the [[Black Sugar Gang|Brown Sugar Pirates]], who stole all the island treasures and their precious giant golden statue of Peach and took it to their base at the nearby [[Kitchen Island]]. After Mario and Yoshi join forces with Wario in stopping the [[Pirate Goom]]s left on the island, with the villagers passing Wario a [[Garlic]] to power him up, they decide to go and retrieve the treasures.
