In ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]'', he does the same thing, though he is more honest (referring to his services as "adjusting" rather than "upgrading" and admitting the downpoints to the use of him, even allowing the player to choose which character's stats get downgraded). Visiting him is slightly more worthwhile in this game, if the [[player]] in question is willing to even out his or her stats for a fair price. Chet Rippo can also switch two partners' ranks around. The price for either of these services is thirty-nine coins. He appears in a house in the background of [[Rogueport Sewers]] near the main entrance; it can be seen to the left of the [[Warp Pipe]] first used to reach the sewer ruins. The player has to use [[Admiral Bobbery]] to crack the wall directly left to this aforementioned Warp Pipe to unlock another pipe leading to Chet Rippo's house in the background.

Chet's body is obscured by a cloak and has a head resembling that of a duck or platypus, but with a red antenna. When Mario reaches the maximum level of 27, he can no longer change any stats because of an [[list of Badges in Paper Mario|unassisted]] maximum of 50 HP, 50 FP, and 30 BP. If one of his stats is at its respective minimum, he does not appear. He is the negative equivalent of [[Rip Cheato]]. Their names are derived from the words "cheat" and "rip off", as well as the given names "Chet" and "Rip".

It is possible that there are two different Chet Rippos. In ''Paper Mario'', he appears to be a pudgy, bird-like creature, while in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'', he looks more like the [[Shaman]] characters [[Merlon]] and [[Merlee]]. As a matter of fact, he may even be related to these Shaman-types (and may even be a member of the fortune-telling clan that names their members after their purposes mentioned by [[Wonky]]), although this is unlikely as his name does not begin in "Merl-". Noticeable is that in ''Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door'', his hat is a [[barrel]] and his cloak is patched.
Chet Rippo is a non-playable character in ''[[Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door]]''. This time, Chet Rippo upgrades and downgrades each level individually. He can also raise a partner's level by one rank while decreasing another partner's level by one rank. The price for either of these services is thirty-nine coins. Chet Rippo can only be visited after clearing Chapter 5 as the player is required to use [[Bobbery]] to blow up a wall blocking a [[Warp Pipe]] leading to Chet Rippo's house in the background near the main entrance to [[Rogueport Underground]]. In this game, he explains the drawbacks of using his services beforehand, unlike in the previous game. Chet is redesigned to appear as a shaman like [[Merlon]], but with tattered clothing and a wooden bucket over his head instead of a hood.


Visiting Chet Rippo is entirely optional as his services are not required to advance through the main plot of either game.
