At Mario Brothers Plumbing, Mario and Luigi are in the midst of fixing several pipes together, arguing as they go along. Suddenly, to their surprise, the doorbell rings and who should enter but Sgt. Slaughter. Slaughter announces to Mario and Luigi that's he's here to train the two of them for a secret government mission.

Sgt. Slaughter manages to frighten Mario to "drop and give him ten". Luigi confronts Sgt. Slaughter and asks how they can be sure that they are on a secret government mission, to which he pulls out his secret government orders and reads them in a whisper. Luigi claims that he cannot hear anything, and Sgt. Slaughter reminds him that the orders are top secret.

Slaughter and asks how they can be sure that they're on a secret government mission, so the sarge pulls out his secret government orders, and reads them in a whisper. Luigi claims that he can't hear anything, and Sgt. Slaugter reminds him that the orders are top secret.

Sgt. Slaughter tells Mario and Luigi that he is going to give them a test to see if they can be trusted with top government security. Mario repeats the information to Luigi, and Sgt. Slaughter scolds Mario for shouting, exclaiming that the whole neighborhood probably heard him. He then tells Mario that he failed, and orders him to give him ten.

Afterwards, Sgt. Slaughter is shouting orders at Mario and Luigi as they run around the basement, carrying plungers over their shoulders and running around obstacles. Sgt. Slaughter orders Mario to do some pull ups on a pipe, but Mario ends up bending it. Sgt. Slaughter orders Mario and Luigi to face away from him, but they have trouble, as they are scared of his yelling. Sgt. Slaughter then tells them to place and alternate their plungers between their right and left shoulders, but Luigi fails completely, causing Mario to mess up as well.

After a few more missteps, Mario and Luigi misinterpret Sgt. Slaughter's directions and throw their plungers away. Sgt. Slaughter then yells at Mario and Luigi for confusing a parade rest with taking a rest. Some time later, Sgt. Slaughter is about to inaugurate Mario and Luigi, but they are sleeping.

Slauter then yells at Mario and Luigi for confusing a parade rest with taking a rest. Some time later, Sgt. Slaughter is about to inaguarate Mario and Luigi, except for the fact that they're sleeping.

The ringing phone wakes up Mario and Luigi. Luigi then accidentally tells family secrets to Sgt. Slaughter, who ignores them to answer the phone, while the brothers go back to sleep. On the other line is the President, who Sgt. Slaughter reports to about having trained the Mario Bros. Sgt. Slaughter then hears that a mistake was made, and that he was to train the Ratagator instead. After hanging up, Sgt. Slaughter goes over to the Ratagator, orders him to report to Fort Dix, and leaves. Mario and Luigi wake up again, just to confirm that Sgt. Slaughter is gone, and go back to sleep.

*In the Latin American Spanish dub:

**In the original, when Sgt. Slaughter orders them to perform a parade rest, Mario and Luigi mention that he should go to the parade while they rest, confusing a parade rest with an actual rest. In the Latin American Spanish dub, the net gag is kept the same, but is executed differently. In the dub, Sgt. Slaughter simply orders them to rest, with Mario and Luigi agreeing that is a good idea. Sgt. Slaughter then yells at them, as he actually means a parade rest.

**In the original, Mario and Luigi's secret message is "Plumber's Log: He's gone." In the dub, it is "The plumbers are asleep."
