The '''Buoy Base Galaxy''' is a [[galaxy]] that appears in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]''. The galaxy contains a large fortress floating atop a large, semispherical pool of water.  Mario has to climb this fortress in order to get the main [[Power Star]] in this galaxy. The galaxy is one of two galaxies (the other one being the [[Gateway Galaxy]]) to only feature two [[Power Star]]s. It is also the only bonus galaxy to have more than one Power Star.

A planet very similar to the Buoy Base Galaxy appears in the [[To the Top of Topman's Tower|second mission]] of the [[Space Storm Galaxy]]  in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]''. An arrangement of this galaxy's music appears as one of the selectable songs that can be played in events in ''[[Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games]]''.

==Layout==

The titular '''Buoy Base''' is a metal fortress floating in a hemisphere of water similar to the [[Beach Bowl Galaxy|Beach Bowl]]. The fortress is covered in many obstacles and enemies, including [[Topman|Topmen]], [[Thwomp]]s, and [[Amp]]s. The main objective of this part of the planet is to collect five blue [[Star Chip]]s to form a [[Pull Star]] leading to a sphere planet filled with water. The hemisphere underneath Buoy Base contains [[torpedo tube]]s that launch [[Torpedo Ted]]s. A secret caged [[Warp Pipe]] in the pool of water leads to the opposing side of the hemisphere, where [[Bill Blaster]]s and a [[glass case|cage]] containing a [[Green Star|Green Power Star]] can be found.

Suspended above Buoy Base is a smaller, spherical planetoid filled with water. When initially visited, the water is concealed by a metal covering and [[Ball Beamer]]s occur at opposing ends of the planetoid. One of the Ball Beamers has a [[Screwtop|bolt]] embedded in its top. [[Spin]]ning the bolt causes the covering to fold away, revealing the water within, and exposing a collectible yellow [[Power Star]] in its core. The way the sphere looks once opened up has been likened to a [[List of Super Smash Bros. series items#Poké Ball|Poké Ball]] from the ''{{iw|bulbapedia|Pokémon}}'' franchise, as noted in the [[Prima Games]] guidebook.<ref>{{cite|quote=Psst!
