The '''Buoy Base Galaxy''' is a [[galaxy]] that appears in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]''. The galaxy contains a large fortress floating atop a large, semispherical pool of water.  Mario has to climb this fortress in order to get the main [[Power Star]] in this galaxy. The galaxy is one of two galaxies (the other one being the [[Gateway Galaxy]]) to only feature two [[Power Star]]s. It is also the only bonus galaxy to have more than one Power Star.

The '''Buoy Base''' is the main part of the Buoy Base Galaxy that consists of a large pool of water and an area above it which contains many obstacles, including [[Topman|Topmen]], [[Thwomp]]s, and [[Amp]]s. The main objective of this part of the planet is to collect five blue [[Star Chip]]s to form a [[Pull Star]] leading to a sphere planet filled with water. Submerged in the large pool of water at the bottom of the planet are multiple [[Bill Blaster]]s and [[Torpedo Ted]]s. A secret caged [[Warp Pipe]] in the pool of water leads to the underside of the planet, where more Bill Blasters and a cage containing a [[Green Power Star]] can be found.

The fortress is covered in many obstacles and enemies, including [[Topman|Topmen]], [[Thwomp]]s, and [[Amp]]s. The main objective of this part of the planet is to collect five blue [[Star Chip]]s to form a [[Pull Star]] leading to a sphere planet filled with water. The hemisphere underneath Buoy Base contains [[torpedo tube]]s that launch [[Torpedo Ted]]s. A secret caged [[Warp Pipe]] in the pool of water leads to the opposing side of the hemisphere, where [[Bill Blaster]]s and a [[glass case|cage]] containing a [[Green Star|Green Power Star]] can be found.

Suspended above Buoy Base is a smaller, spherical planetoid filled with water. When initially visited, the water is concealed by a metal covering and [[Ball Beamer]]s occur at opposing ends of the planetoid. One of the Ball Beamers has a [[Screwtop|bolt]] embedded in its top. [[Spin]]ning the bolt causes the covering to fold away, revealing the water within, and exposing a collectible yellow [[Power Star]] in its core. The way the sphere looks once opened up has been likened to a [[List of Super Smash Bros. series items#Poké Ball|Poké Ball]] from the ''{{iw|bulbapedia|Pokémon}}'' franchise, as noted in the [[Prima Games]] guidebook.<ref>{{cite|quote=Psst! The '''Water Sphere Planet''' is a giant sphere filled with water above the Buoy Base. It has a screw on it that Mario must Star Spin to open the planet and retrieve a power star inside of it and also two pulse-wave generating machines, one of which is actually the screw. It is remarkably small in comparison to the Buoy Base and is similar (or a possible reference) to a ''{{wp|gashapon}}'' capsule. It also bears resemblance to a [[List of Super Smash Bros. series items#Poké Ball|Poké Ball]] from the [[bulbapedia:Pokémon|''Pokémon'' franchise]] as mentioned in the [[Prima Games|Prima]] guide.

*The second mission in the [[Space Storm Galaxy]] in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]'' appears to be partially based on the first mission in the Buoy Base Galaxy, even utilizing the same background music and [[Space Storm Galaxy#Topman's Tower|a similar-looking tower]], which features many of the same obstacles and enemies, such as [[Thwomp]]s and [[Amp]]s, and has an overall similar appearance (excluding of course the wide portion towards the bottom of the tower on the Topman Tower Planet).
