They are donut-shaped balloons that stay still in the air. When Mario jumps on one from above, it can bounce him higher similar to [[trampoline]]s and [[Note Block]]s; if Mario bumps into one from the side or below, it bounces Mario away. Enemies, objects, and projectiles are not affected by Bumpers and will freely pass through them.

In the ''[[Super Mario Bros.]]'' game style, Bumpers are striped light and dark green, with eyes similar to that of [[Mr. Eraser]]. In the ''[[Super Mario Bros. 3]]'' style, they are checkered green and white similar to the [[Note Block|Jump Block]]s from ''[[New Super Mario Bros. Wii]]'', with the same type of eyes. In the ''[[Super Mario World]]'' style, they are white with pink diamonds and beady eyes. In the ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]'' style, they retain the beady eyes and are yellow with an orange star pattern, resembling [[Lemmy]]'s [[magical ball|ball]]s from the ''New Super Mario Bros.'' series.
