From this galaxy, I'll rule a great galactic empire with Peach by my side. It will last forever! I will rule every pitiful corner of the universe. | Bowser's Galaxy Reactor is the final galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy. It is located in the center of the universe and can be accessed only by talking to Rosalina on the Comet Observatory. After the player talks to her, she will transform the observatory into a comet and fly it to the center of the universe, with very minor resistance along the way. It is the only galaxy with a single star to have its own music. | |
|
| |
|
| This is where the final Grand Star is located and, as such, features the final battle between Mario and Bowser. During the battle, Bowser Jr. watches from the sidelines on his airship while holding Princess Peach captive. After defeating Bowser, one of the planets near his large sun implodes and turns into a supermassive black hole, causing the entire galaxy to collapse in upon itself, after which it begins to suck up the entire universe, along with Peach's Castle and the Comet Observatory as well. The Lumas all throw themselves into the black hole to reverse its effects and prevent the destruction of the universe. Afterwards, the galaxy is reformed, and Mario, Peach, Bowser, and many others land safely back in the Mushroom Kingdom.

| |
| This is the first area that Mario encounters after entering the Warp Field inside Peach's Castle. The extensive vertical walls of this strange area appear to be part of a crumbling castle. This particular section of the level contains special gravity spotlights which allow Mario to walk directly up the vertical walls when the gravity field of the spotlights is entered. Several Dry Bones also patrol the area, and can trip Mario if he is not careful.

| |
| The first planet Mario is brought to is the first of three planets that are based on different environmental hazards. This one is completely covered lava, with only some steel platforms and moving rocky terrain being the only nondamaging footing. The steel platforms sink down into the lava as soon as Mario sets foot on them. The only significant obstacles that Mario will face on this planet are lava bursts and fire geysers. A few coins can be found on certain parts of the planet, along with a 1-Up Mushroom.

It is slightly larger than the previous planet and is covered in ice so cold that it damages Mario like lava would, similar to the freezing water from Snowman's Land in Super Mario 64. The ice sphere is the only place this type of ice occurs in the entire game. Normal ice platforms come together to form a path above the planet's surface that Mario can skate across. They last for about six seconds before disappearing, meaning that they must be navigated quickly.

| | The galaxy contains seven planets (not including the three planets in which Mario battles Bowser). The first is a planet with spotlights that change the direction of gravity. This planet is reminiscent of the castle. The second is a spherical planet with a lava core and a few rocks. This planet is reminiscent of the flame half of the Galaxy. The third is the same with an ice core and ice blocks. This planet is reminiscent of the freeze half of the Freezeflame Galaxy. The fourth planet has a sand core with rocks and firebars. This galaxy is reminiscent of the Dusty Dune Galaxy. The fifth one is actually not a planet. As Mario walks along, glowing blocks begin to appear, forming a path. This is reminiscent of the Space Junk Galaxy. The sixth is a cylindrical planet resembling a castle where Mario travels through the lava-filled core. This planet has Bullet Bills and Banzai Bills. The last planet is the pathway toward the |
| The final planet in this series that is accessible to Mario is the largest of three and is covered in quicksand. To get across this planet, Mario must follow moving stone paths to avoid Fire Bars. Three tornadoes occur on the surface, although they are of no use to Mario. It is possible for the player to reach the tornadoes by long jumping off the moving platform and Star Spinning at the ending height of Mario's long jump. The tornadoes do nothing good for the player and can occasionally launch the player into space, making Mario lose a life. In addition to the three described planets, there are two similar ones inaccessible in the galaxy. One is covered in water, while the other resembles a sun. | | battle between Mario and Bowser. |

| Following the quicksand-covered planet is a two-dimensional area that must be navigated using cosmic blocks. Unlike the other cosmic blocks found in previous galaxies, these ones begin to vanish after moving into place. The pull of gravity in this area also shifts, necessitating he a good pace without being hit by spinning Fire Bars.

| The next planet is a cylinder resembling a castle turret. The inner walls are covered in lava. This planet has Bullet Bills, Banzai Bills, and Thwomps. Mario must travel to the end to reach the Launch Star using moving and sinking platforms while avoiding all enemies and obstacles with limited cover and a sparse supply of coins. Mario can lure Bullet Bills into Bowser Statues for coins there. The walls of the planet have their own gravity. There is also a hidden black hole found behind and above the planet.

| | The ultimate showdown against the Koopa King himself! The fate of the universe is in Mario's hands. This is the only level in the galaxy. |
| This is the pathway toward the battle between Mario and Bowser. It consists of a flight of stairs. There are two side platforms that contain a Life Mushroom and a 1-Up Mushroom on the left and the right of the stairs respectively. If Mario wishes to get there, he must do it quickly or the path will crumble when Bowser Jr. shoots meteors from his airship.

|
| |
| This is the first planet is where the first stage of the final battle takes place. It has prickly plants growing on the surface. Mario can have Bowser crush the plants to get Star Bits and coins.
| |
|
| |
|
| This is the second planet where the second stage of the final battle takes place. It has prickly plants and rubbery bulbs growing on the surface of it. Mario can have Bowser crush the prickly plants or spin the rubbery bulbs into the prickly plants to get Star Bits or coins. What appears to be this planet is shown exploding in the ending cutscene of the game, expanding until it becomes a black hole.
| | The way Mario has to take to reach the battle with Bowser is not an easy one. He starts on a small rock resembling part of a castle wall. using gravity spotlights, Mario could climb the walls and arrive at a tower gaurded by Dry Bones. At the top a large Gravity Spotlight would carry Mario across to the Fire Planet, the path across this was over rocks that would topple over when stepped on, and sinking platforms. A second large spotlight carries Mario to the ice planet at the en of the pathway. Both the ice planets surface and the fire planets surface would cause one point of damage if touched. The Ice planets pathway is formed by ice blocks that shoot in from space, but these would vanishe after a time. The third planet, reached by another spotlight, is made of sinking sand, which is fatal if touched. The planet is traversed over circular platforms which move around but dip beneath the planets surface. There were also fire bars in the way. Yet another spotlight would carry Mario into a space junkyard, platforms would shoot in and shortly vanish, like on the ice planet. However, gravity arrows and fire bars get in the way this time. At the end of the pathway, a Gravity spotlight allows access to the fire tunnel, a hollow planet made entirely of fire and is cylindrical. Bullet bills, sinking platforms, Thowmps and Bansai Bills all get in Marios way here. At the end, a launch star takes Mario to Bowsers Final Stand. |
|
| |
|
| This last planet is where the third and final stage of the final battle takes place. It has coin lamps and ice crystals containing coins on the surface. The reactor is surrounded by a sphere of lava that makes up the massive sun of Bowser's galaxy. The final Grand Star of the game is hidden inside the reactor. The sphere of lava, however, is not solid.

| | Bowser Jr. appears on his airship at the bottom of the staircase to where Bowser stands with Princess Peach behind him. He taunts Mario, then flies behind his father and begins shooting down the staircase. When a meteor hits the staircase, The peice will crumble and fall. Along the way there are two mushrooms, a 1-up shroom and a super shroom. Grabbing them takes up valuble time, however. At the top of the stairs, Jr. stops shooting and lets his father take over... |

| | After explaining his plan, Bowser gravitises him and Mario to a nearby planetoid made of metal, with spiky bushes on. He transforms into a boulder with his head sticking out of the top. If his head is hit by a spiky bush or marios spin attack, he will fall out of the boulder, then must be spun again to take damage. |
| <gallery>
| | After he is hurt twice, Mario and Bowser will fly to another planetoid. Here, Bowser transforms into a ball made of two of his shells. He then rolls around the planet. Mario must spin into sling plants to hit Bowser on his back, then spin him. After doing this twice, Mario and Bowser will fall towards a giant sun, one of the biggest in the game. It is, however, hollow, with holes, and the two combatants will fall through one of these to land on the reactor at the centre. |

| The music that plays is an arrangement of Flying Mario's theme and the game's main theme. It also plays in the Grandmaster Galaxy mission "The Perfect Run" from Super Mario Galaxy 2, along with Gusty Garden Galaxy's theme, Good Egg Galaxy's theme, and the Comet Observatory theme.

| | Here, Mario fights Bowser in a similar way to how he does in Bowser's Star Reactor and Bowser's Dark Matter Plant, except Bowser has the attack he used on the second planetoid, which Mario can only avoid. After hitting Bowser twice, Bowser will fall out of the reactor's gravity feild and into the sun. A Grand Star will then be revealed from inside the reactor, which the player takes. |
