On the first one there are many moving platforms across some dark matter and a 2-D part that has many gravity changes that Mario must cross with a secret part above it all with a ? block. The second part has much of the same things but there is gaps in the platforms and a gravity section that leads to dark matter.

To avoid the dark matter, Mario must use platforms to travel over the dark matter.  However, in the 2D areas, Mario must climb to different sides of the platforms because the gravity changes often and will result in Mario falling into the dark matter if he is on the wrong side.  Eventually he will reach [[Bowser]] who must be defeated the same way he was [[Bowser's Star Reactor|last time]], only this time Bowser's attacks are harder to avoid and additionally Bowser uses his own [[Dark spin|Dark Spin]] to attack Mario.
