A Boss Battle Space is a space that appears twice on each board in Mario Party 9. Like Captain Event Spaces, these spaces are mandatory spaces, meaning that the Captain always stops on these spaces regardless of how many spaces they have left to move, and leftover moves are ignored. Whenever this space is passed/landed on, a Boss Minigame triggers. This space later returns in Mario Party 10 and Mario Party: Star Rush.
A Boss Battle Space is a space that appears twice on each board in the game Mario Party 9. This space disregards how many spaces the current Captain is able to go because it always stops the current Captain whenever this space is passed (similar to a Captain Event Space). Whenever this space is passed/landed on, a Boss minigame triggers. This space later return in Mario Party 10.

The first Boss Battle Space usually appears in the first third or half of the board, outside a fort. Here, Bowser Jr. will either taunt the players and force them to fight the miniboss of the area if playing Solo Mode, or allow the captain to choose a miniboss from three miniboss minigames, including the one that would normally occur on the space in Solo Mode, if playing Party Mode. After the miniboss minigame, the Captain who landed on the space always gets rewarded with a Captain Bonus, getting a few extra Mini Stars than anyone else. The players often encounter a new element of the stage after beating the miniboss here.

The players often encounter a new element of the stage after beating the boss here.

The second Boss Battle Space always appears at the end of the board, marked by a Bowser Gate. When players reach the gate, they will emerge from their vehicle and be confronted by Bowser himself. As with his son, the Koopa King will force players to play a boss minigame (although he lets the captain pick in Party Mode). After the boss is defeated, the final results and the Superstar are announced.

The Boss minigame triggered at any given Boss Battle Space depends on the board in Solo Mode. In Party Mode, the Captain is able to choose from three boss minigames, including the one that would normally occur on the space in Solo Mode.

After the boss minigame ends, the player who landed on the space as the Captain will be rewarded with a Captain Bonus, getting a few extra Mini Stars than anyone else.
However, in Bowser Station, the mid-boss is always Bowser Jr., while the stage boss is always Bowser. Likewise, in DK's Jungle Ruins, Diddy Kong is always the mid-boss, while Donkey Kong is always the stage boss.

In this game, Boss Battle Spaces appear at a Fortress where the miniboss will be battled. They also appear at a Castle where the end-stage boss will be battled.
In this game, boss battle will appear at a Fortress where the miniboss will be battle and at a Castle where the stage boss will be battle.

The first time a board is played, the game automatically selects the boss of the corresponding board. When the board is played again and a human player lands on the space, the Captain can choose between three random mid-boss minigames like in Mario Party 9 while the player in the last position can choose between three end-stage boss minigames. If a CPU player lands on the space, the boss minigame is instead chosen randomly.
The Bosses
Unlike in Mario Party 9, Captain Bonuses are no longer awarded at the end of the minigame. Instead, the player who stops on this space wins a set of Mini Stars (five for the Fortress and ten for the Castle).

Mario Party: Star Rush
The Boss Battle Space makes a third appearance in Mario Party: Star Rush in Toad Scramble, but with the design of a spiky Warp Pipe on it. The players that land on it get 5 bonus coins and enter the boss fight. If Bowser is the boss of the board, after someone lands on the space, whoever is the furthest away from him will get a penalty. After the battle starts, everyone else must race to it from the space they were currently on by mashing 3ds to join the fight.
