'''Boomerangs''' are a type of weapon that has made numerous appearances throughout the ''[[Super Mario (franchise)|Super Mario]]'' franchise. When thrown, a boomerang flies forward, harming any enemies in its path, then returns to the user. Boomerangs are the weapon of choice of the [[Boomerang Bro]]s., but they [[Boomerang Mario|can also be used]] by [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], [[Princess Peach]], [[Toad]], [[Toadette]], and [[Rosalina]] upon grabbing a [[Boomerang Flower]].

A special blue boomerang with two white stripes (as opposed to the normal boomerangs used by [[Boomerang Bro]]thers, which are white with a single red-orange stripe) makes an appearance in some of the [[World-e]] levels of ''[[Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3]]''. When thrown, this boomerang briefly flies forward before turning around, though it only does so once; as such, the player must catch it (by holding {{button|gba|b}}) to be able to re-use it. It defeats most enemies it hits, including [[Hot Feet]], though it would phase through others like [[Dry Bones]], [[Lava Bubble|Podoboos]], [[Bowser]], and [[Bowser Statue|his statues]]. Using a boomerang against some enemies like [[Magikoopa]] (which is completely unaffected by the weapon) will cause the boomerang to lose momentum, possibly even bounce for a very short distance, before dropping; if it falls to the ground, it can be retrieved and used again. The boomerang can also be used to collect coins (including [[Advance Coin]]s) from a distance. If [[Cape Mario|Caped Mario]] is holding a boomerang, he jumps high as if he is on [[Yoshi]] rather than fly. The boomerang disappears upon level completion, much like a [[Goomba's Shoe]].

Certain Boomerang Brothers are also shown using these blue boomerangs in [[Slidin' the Slopes]], [[Bowser's Last Stand]], and [[Bowser's Airship 2]], and, upon their defeat, any of the boomerangs that they have flying out at the time will drop to the ground, allowing the player to pick up and use them (though only one boomerang can be picked up at any given time).

There is also an [[e-Reader]] card released only in Japan that uploads this boomerang to the player's inventory, allowing Mario to use it in any stage.
