Unlike all other types of vehicles, Bob-omb Cars can be fully destroyed for a short while. Bob-omb Cars will blow up when they collide with a player or are hit with almost any kind of item; the only items that can hit a Bob-omb Car without detonating it are [[Banana]]s and [[Fake Item Box]]es.  

 

The Bob-omb Car also bears a resemblance to the [[Mini Bomb Kart]], which appears in ''[[Mario Kart 64]]''.

Bomb-cars first appear in ''[[Mario Kart: Double Dash!!]]'', on [[GCN Mushroom Bridge|Mushroom Bridge]] and [[Mushroom City]]. They are blue and have a red decal of a lit bomb on their backsides. Hitting a Bomb-car has the same effect as getting blown up by either a Bob-omb or a [[Spiny Shell (blue)|Spiny Shell]], causing the player to lose their item. After exploding, Bomb-cars respawn from certain hidden passages. On Mushroom Bridge, Bomb-cars appear from the pipe shortcut's entrance. In Mushroom City, the Bomb-car comes out of the alleyway on the left when players go down the hill and onto the left when someone hits the existing bomb on the lower level, and in the "Do Not Enter" alleyway on the upper level. If the player attempts to block the Bomb-car from coming out multiple times, it will reprogram itself to come out in an area that will evade the player, assuming they do not move their [[kart]]. The Bomb-car is also invincible from blowing up within the first three seconds of its respawn. Despite having a lit fuse, a Bomb-car never explodes on its own.

Bob-omb Cars are obstacles in ''[[Mario Kart Wii]]''. They are encountered in [[Wii Moonview Highway|Moonview Highway]]. They are now light purple, their base has been simplified, and windup keys have been added on the backs of these cars to resemble actual Bob-ombs. Unlike in ''Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'', they respawn on the track itself, and they can now blow up immediately after respawning. If a player hits a Bob-omb Car, they will lose their item. Bob-omb Cars also appeared on {{classic link|N64|Skyscraper}} in the first September 2008 tournament, and on [[Luigi Circuit (Mario Kart Wii)|Luigi Circuit]] in the first May 2009 tournament. In both cases, they all drove against the player and were the only obstacles for the player to evade.

Bob-omb Cars also appear in ''Mario Kart Tour'' on {{classic link|GCN|Mushroom Bridge}}, {{classic link|Wii|Moonview Highway}}, and both courses' T variants. In this game, they have their original ''Mario Kart: Double Dash!!'' colors and base design applied to the ''Mario Kart Wii'' bodies. If a player lands on top of a Bob-omb Car, they can perform a [[Jump Boost|trick]]. This detonates the Bob-omb Car without hurting the racer in question.

Bob-omb Cars also appear in {{classic|Wii|Moonview Highway}} in Wave 5 of the ''[[Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass|Booster Course Pass]]'' for ''Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'', using their ''Mario Kart Tour'' appearance with reflections on their sides.<ref>{{cite|language=ja|author=任天堂ホームページ|date=July 6, 2023|url=youtu.be/qMYKju7c384|title=Wii ムーンリッジ&ハイウェイ|publisher=YouTube|accessdate=July 7, 2023}}</ref> In this version, Bob-omb Cars can only be found in the right lane going against the player. If a player uses a [[Boo]] item, they can pass right through Bob-omb Cars without detonating them.

Prior to the Bob-omb Cars' inclusion in the Booster Course Pass, a model for the Bob-omb Car existed within the game files of ''Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'', though it was removed in the 2.0.0 update.
