Bob-omb Cannons are one of the few obstacles to appear in ''[[New Super Luigi U]]'' that do not appear in ''[[New Super Mario Bros. U]]''. This this title, they look identical to the normal mortars from the latter game, but exclusively fire [[Bob-omb]]s. They appear only in [[Bowser Jr. Showdown]], alongside the [[giant cannon]]s. Normal cannons do not appear in ''New Super Luigi U''.

The Bob-omb Cannon is the [[Special Item (Mario Kart series)|special item]] of [[Black Shy Guy]], [[Mario|Mario (Happi)]], [[Builder Mario|Builder Toad]], [[Princess Peach|Peach (Explorer)]], [[King Boo|King Boo (Luigi's Mansion)]], [[Wario|Wario (Hiker)]], [[Dry Bowser|Dry Bowser (Gold)]], [[Bowser Jr.|Bowser Jr. (Pirate)]], [[Birdo|Birdo (Black)]], [[Waluigi|Waluigi (Vampire)]], and the [[Mii|Castle, Brown and Spike Mii Racing Suits]] in ''[[Mario Kart Tour]]''. Wario, Waluigi, and [[Diddy Kong]] also have access to the item in [[Take them out quick!]] bonus challenges. When used, it appears on the front of the player’s kart and shoots out [[Bob-omb]]s in front of it. Once ten Bob-ombs are fired, the cannon disappears. During a Bob-omb Cannon [[Frenzy]], Bob-ombs surround the player and the cannon shoots three Bob-ombs each time it fires. When Bob-omb Cannon+ is active, a second cannon is added, allowing the player to shoot even more Bob-ombs.
