Block and Roll is a 1-vs-Rivals minigame featured in Mario Party 9. Its name is a pun on "rock and roll". The concept of this game is similar to Boulder Ball from Mario Party 3, except the roles have been reversed.

Introduction
Introduction
The screen shows the solo player's destination. It then goes across the path to the solo player, who picks up a block and begins walking, but a boulder knocks the block out of their hands. As the camera zooms out to show the rivals, the solo player grabs a new block.

Gameplay
Gameplay
The solo player attempts to transport three blocks to the other side while dodging the rivals' boulders. After a rival rolls a boulder, there is a three-second delay before that rival can roll another one. If the solo player is hit by a boulder, they drop the cube and need to return to the cube source to get a new one. If there are only two rivals playing, the boulders that they toss are larger than those a team of three gets when playing. The solo player moves more quickly when not carrying a block. If the rivals successfully prevent the solo player from transporting three blocks within 60 seconds, the rivals win. If the solo player manages to transport three blocks within 60 seconds, they win.

If the solo player is victorious, the area begins to shake, and a path across the gorge appears. The solo player then walks across it into a ruined temple.
