Big-sized Spinies appear in the 1986 anime movie ''[[Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!]]''. A [[Lakitu]] appears right after [[Mario]], [[Luigi]], and [[Haru-ōji|Kibidango]] escape from a field of [[Piranha Plant]]s. This Lakitu starts throwing [[Spiny Egg|Spiny's egg]]s at the ground surrounding the trio. The three laugh at the Lakitu for its poor aim. However, Lakitu pulls a lever in its cloud that emits rain and turns the eggs into fully-fledged Spinies. They close in on the group. However, this surrounding does not last long; a [[beanstalk]] grows beneath Mario, allowing Mario and his companions to escape. Before the Lakitu can escape, Mario grabs a piece of its cloud and makes it snow on the large Spinies, freezing them. When Mario returns to the earth, the Spiny group is gone.

Big Spinies appear in a single minigame, [[Sock It to Lakitu]], once [[Lakitu]]'s health is reduced by half. Lakitu starts throwing Big Spinies, which act the same way as normal Spinies in the boss fight, except that players hit by them lose two points.

Big Spinies are also found in ''[[Super Mario Run]]'', first appearing in World 3-1: [[Big Spiny Blitz]]. They behave like regular Spinies from 2D ''Super Mario'' platformers. Big Spinies lack an entry in the Notebook menu, and are considered to be regular Spinies in regards to [[level up|enemy leveling]]. The Notebook's description of Spiny references Spinies being larger in the [[:Category:Deserts|desert]], alluding to Big Spiny Blitz.

 

In the ''[[Mario Golf: World Tour]]'' course [[Wiggler Park]], several Big Spinies appear as obstacles on Hole 5.

A single Big Spiny appears in ''[[Paper Mario: Color Splash]]'' as a mini boss in [[Kiwano Temple]], where it guards a [[Mini Paint Star]]. In battle, it can charge up its attacks and fly at Mario to do damage. [[Swoop]]s can assist the Big Spiny in battle if it is not flipped over. The charged attack can be jumped over with the Frog Suit. However, if it is flipped over with a POW Block, it will retaliate with a jumping slam based on Mario's own [[Spin Jump]] that can't be dodged in any way.

 

If the player flees successfully, the Big Spiny will remain in front of the Yellow Mini Paint Star. The player can bypass the Big Spiny; however, it will challenge Mario once again should he return. Also, passing the Big Spiny without defeating him will only allow for the Yellow Mini Paint Star to be collected as the platform leading to the red one will not lower.
