In ''[[Super Mario 64 DS]]'', the mission's name is hyphenated as '''Behind Chain-Chomp's Gate''' and was moved to the seventh and final mission of the course. The mission's objective is to obtain the [[Power Star]] guarded by the titular [[Chain Chomp]].

==Layout==
The Power Star is visible behind a set of iron bars, which can be removed only by [[Ground Pound|ground-pound]]ing the [[stump|post]] that the Chain Chomp's chain is attached to three times. This frees the Chain Chomp, letting it break the bars and escape. In ''Super Mario 64 DS'', the Star is slightly lower, and its associated mission is unchanged; however, there are a few more methods to obtain the Star. The player can use [[Vanish Mario|Vanish Luigi]] to phase through the bars, and [[Wario]] can flatten the post with a single Pound the Ground attack. The player can also use a [[Super Mushroom|mushroom]] found inside a [[Block (Super Mario 64)|Brick]] to flatten the post. During [[5 Silver Stars!]], the Chain Chomp is running out in the field, and as a result, the player must use Vanish Luigi to collect the Star.

Through [[List of Super Mario 64 glitches#Bob-omb Clip|a glitch]], it is possible to use an exploding [[Bob-omb]] to clip through the bars instead.

In Super Mario 64, it is possible to use the bob-omb located near the Chain Chomp by throwing him up and regrab him when his body grows bigger. Face away from the gate and if you time your throw just right, you'll clip though the door
