'''Banktoad''' is a green [[Toad (species)|Toad]] who is a member of the [[Toad Brigade]]. He has a great love for Star Bits and can often be found in many different galaxies where he can usually be seen digging for [[coin]]s. Originally unnamed, Banktoad receives his title in ''[[Super Mario Galaxy 2]]'' for his duty of managing [[Star Bit]]s in that game.

In ''[[Super Mario Galaxy]]'', Banktoad and four other Toads form the [[Toad Brigade]]. During the annual [[Star Festival]], [[Bowser]] attacks the [[Mushroom Kingdom]] and kidnaps [[Princess Peach]], inadvertently abducting [[Luigi]] and the Toad Brigade as well. Luckily, Mario comes across the Toad Brigade during the first mission in the [[Honeyhive Galaxy]], after which they follow him back to the [[Comet Observatory]]. Once there, they construct a small spaceship called the [[Starshroom]] with the help of some of the [[Luma]]s onboard the Comet Observatory. After this, they use the spaceship to travel across the universe in order to help Mario recover the lost [[Power Star]]s. Banktoad can often be found with the Toad Brigade in various galaxies throughout the game. He can usually be seen exploring the area, digging for coins with his pickaxe, or otherwise giving Mario helpful hints regarding his quest.

During his travels, Mario collects a lot of Star Bits. The player can deposit Star Bits with Banktoad (he appears after the player visits Spin-Dig Galaxy) on a regular basis. Banked Star Bits collect interest, which comes in handy when the player needs to make a withdrawal to feed the [[Hungry Luma]]s that Mario encounters on the World Map.

Banked Star Bits transfer across save files, so if players start a new game, they can keep all the Star Bits that they have in the bank. Banktoad will also give the player extra Star Bits every time they complete a mission, corresponding with the ones digit of how many Star Bits they obtained in that mission. The Banktoad's appearance also changes, depending on how many Star Bits Mario gives to him. He can only hold up to 9999 Star Bits, however. This, along with the galaxy's [[Comet Medal]], is required in order to access the [[Prankster Comet]] in [[Grandmaster Galaxy]].

Banktoad appears again in ''[[Super Mario Odyssey]]''. He continues to wear the explorer's outfit he gained in ''[[Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker]]'', although he gains a [[Crazy Cap#Explorer Hat|pith helmet]] to wear over his mushroom cap. He can first be found running the [[Crazy Cap]] location on the [[Lost Kingdom]]'s [[Rocky Mountain Summit]], with fellow Toad Brigade members [[Yellow Toad (Toad Brigade)|Yellow Toad]] and [[Mailtoad]] acting as the store's clerks. Once [[Mario]] has cleared all story objectives in [[Bowser's Kingdom]], Banktoad will appear at the starting gate next to a [[Warp Pipe]] informing him of a shortcut to the [[Inner Wall]]. He also appears on an expedition to the [[Dark Side]] with [[Yellow Toad (Toad Brigade)|the]] [[Hint Toad|other]] [[Mailtoad|Toads]] after the objective [[Arrival at Rabbit Ridge!]] is complete, where he is near the [[spark pylon]] leading to [[Rabbit Ridge Tower]] and informs Mario that the [[Broodals]] may still be fought although the [[Power Moon]]s atop the tower have already been collected.

Banktoad is a playable character in ''[[Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury]]''. He can be played in the [[Captain Toad's Adventures]] levels, but only in multiplayer mode. He has the same appearance as in ''Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker''. In ''[[Bowser's Fury]]'', Banktoad is one of the four Toads who must be found to receive a [[Cat Shine]], and he is on a small island near Crisp Climb Castle.

Banktoad also appears in ''[[Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker]]''. While he doesn't appear to play the role of a Banktoad in this game, he proves to be a hardworking Toad and is often seen investigating various maps in certain levels. He wears attire similar to Captain Toad with the uniform and backpack for collecting treasure.

Banktoad directly helps Captain Toad in certain situations in which he could follow behind the Captain alongside the other members of the Toad Brigade to help him reach difficult areas in order to find treasure and to snag the Power Star.
