Banana Medals are collectible items in Donkey Kong 64, and they are brown medals with a banana spinning in their middle. A Kong can obtain a Banana Medal collecting 75 bananas of their corresponding color in a level. Once they collect a Banana Medal, they cannot collect it again. There are a total of 40 Banana Medals, with eight for each Kong to obtain.

If the Kongs have at least 15 Banana Medals, then they can play a classic Rareware title from Cranky's Lab, Jetpac. Every Banana Medal is required for 101% completion.
The game is filled with a total of forty Banana Medals, with a total of five medals per level. During the levels, the five Kongs can get these medals by collecting seventy-five of their own bananas. Once the Banana Medal is earned, it can never be obtained again. In the game's final level, Hideout Helm, the rules to getting Banana Medals are much different, as the heroes will need to complete their own bonus levels to get it.

In the final level, Hideout Helm, the criteria for obtaining a Banana Medal is different, as each Kong can obtain one after completing two Bonus Barrel challenges. The five that appear, however, become permanently unobtainable if the Kongs leaves the rooms without collecting them, preventing the player from achieving 101% completion.
If the group manages to get fifteen Banana Medals or more, they can go to Cranky's Lab, found in every level, to play an unlockable, classic Rareware title, known as Jetpac.
