'''Balloons''' appear in ''[[Donkey Kong Barrel Blast]]'' as objects that grant the racers with items to attack their opponents or improve the racers' performance, similarly to [[Weapon Balloon]]s in ''[[Diddy Kong Racing]]''. Many balloons appear in every course. When touched, the balloons break and disappear for a short amount of time, but appear soon after for another player to grab. There are two types of balloons: '''red balloons''' and '''blue balloons'''. The effects of a red balloon are boosted by [[Kong]]s, while the effects of a blue balloon are boosted by [[Kremling]]s. These balloons have a possibility of being based on the [[Red Balloon|Extra]] [[Green Balloon|Life]] [[Blue Balloon|Balloons]] from the [[Donkey Kong Country (series)|''Donkey Kong Country'' series]].

In [[List of Donkey Kong Barrel Blast pre-release and unused content|early]] versions, the red balloon had a "DK" emblem on it, and a green balloon has artwork instead of a blue balloon.
