'''Axem Red''' is the leader of the [[Smithy Gang]]'s [[Axem Rangers]] who appears in ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]'' and in the [[Super Mario RPG (Nintendo Switch)|remake version]]. He is a balanced fighter, like [[Mario]], and a tough opponent for Mario's party, having the highest HP out of all the Axem Rangers. Axem Red has the ability to power up his attack and defense.

During the events of ''Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars'', Axem Red spearheads the effort to collect the sixth [[Star Piece (Super Mario RPG)|Star Piece]] from [[Barrel Volcano]]. In fact, he swipes the Star Piece right before Mario is going to claim it. As they are escaping from Mario, Red accidentally drops the Star Piece, causing [[Axem Yellow]] to go back and retrieve it and call Red "all thumbs." Red apparently took this criticism to heart, as can be implied by his psychopath quote during the battle. Then, Axem Red flees to his battleship, [[the Blade]], hoping to escape with the Star Piece. However, Mario follows right behind him. As a result, Mario and his party battle with the Axem Rangers.

Throughout the battle, if his comrades are defeated before him, Axem Red will reply to their excuses with admonishing remarks. If Axem Red is defeated before the other Axem Rangers, he will say: "Oh, my head is spinning!" Axem Red has balanced stats like Mario, who is the all-around of his group.

Eventually, all five Axem Rangers are defeated. However, Axem Red will not give up the Star Piece that easily. He rallies his companions and together they share their energies into the Blade's [[Breaker Beam]]. Axem Red personally takes command of the powerful energy beam. Ultimately, Axem Red's efforts are in vain, as Mario and his allies defeat the Axem Rangers a second time.

Later, he and the rest of his team can be found as mass-produced [[Machine Made]] copies in the [[Factory (Super Mario RPG)|Factory]]. The Machine Made copy's [[Thought Peek|thought]] references the beginning of the Axem Ranger's speech before battle.

==Trivia==
*In the [[Super Nintendo Entertainment System|SNES]] version, individual color palettes for the teleportation animations used by the Axem Rangers exist in the game's coding, who inexplicably all use Red's color teleportation palette in the final game. The Switch remake rectifies this and gives the Rangers their own teleportation colors.
*According to [[Axem Pink|Pink]]'s thought, Red was in the wrong position during battle. The Monster List bio further elaborates via both his own bio and that of his machine made that he was often careless and proceeded to confuse not just group positions, but also his own intro speeches and poses.
**In the Switch remake, besides Pink's thought, Axem Black's thought has Black explicitly mentioning Red's pose being off (in the English SNES version, he simply criticized an unspecified Axem Ranger member for having poor timing).
*Based on Red's reply to [[Axem Black|Black]]'s excuse for not continuing the fight, he was not fond of the latter's tendency to wear sunglasses during battle.
