Wario's coin counter increases by ten when he picks one up, and they also make a unique sound when they are collected. Coins are used to pay [[minigame]]s in order to find hidden treasures. Contrary to regular coins that can be found just along the road, 10 Gold Coins are usually stored in secret rooms or hardly accessible locations, to make it harder for the player to obtain them.

Coins that are worth ten regular coins appear in ''[[Wario Land: Shake It!]]'', where they are referred to as '''gold coins'''. As before, gold coins retain their behavior. [[List of Wario Land: Shake It! missions|Missions]] in [[Windbreak Bay]] and [[Launchpad Labyrinth]] task Wario to collect at least ten gold coins in a row, while one in [[Creep Blue Sea]] tasks him to collect at least eight in a row.
