Squirps
- “You're the ones looking for the Pure Heart, squirple? Hm! Cuter than I thought!”
- —Squirps, Super Paper Mario
Squirp Korogaline Squirpina, better known as Squirps, is a young alien creature from the game Super Paper Mario. He first appears in Chapter 4-1 of that game, giving off an S.O.S. message from his spaceship; Mario, Peach, and Bowser quickly answer this call for help. Squirps then ambiguously talks them into following him, using Squarp Holes to get through Outer Space. He has the ability to shoot fire balls at enemies, and is held by the heroes and used as a sort of gun for the first three levels in Chapter 4.
However, his childish attitude often got on the party's nerves, and when they found a near planet, Squirps immediately had to use the bathroom but was kept waiting by a creature in the bathroom. Squirps eventually succeeded in leading the group to a Pure Heart (a task he was destined 1,500 years ago to fulfill), which belonged to his mother, a queen. Mario and the others were shocked to learn Squirps was a prince, but as soon as they had the Pure Heart, Squirps fell asleep next to a statue of his mother. It was from here on thought by the protagonists that Squirps was dead, although returning to Outer Space at any time would reveal that he was merely sleeping.
Trivia
- Unlike previous aliens, such as the Shroobs, Squirps speaks the language of the player. However, he has a unique way of talking (which is possibly shared by other members of the Squirpia kingdom); he often puts nonsensical words starting in "squ-" (such as "squinkle" and "squeeep") at random parts of sentences. He also refers to himself in third person.
- Due to his name, appearance and ability to fire lasers from his mouth, it is possible that Squirps was intended to be an Outer Space subspecies of Squiglet.
