Bird (Wario Land series)
Birds are avian creatures that Wario commonly encounters during his adventures in the Wario Land (series). Their relation to the Brown Sugar Pirates is unclear, but they oppose Wario nevertheless. Though they always remain bird-related, their appearence and function changes drastically between the different installments.
Role in Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3
The birds of Kitchen Island are relatively huge in size, being as tall as Wario. They hover in the air and wait for Wario to be in range, before they swoop down to attack him with their sharp talons. Wario could counter their attack by either jumping on top of them or simply avoiding the attack. Birds are commonly found in places where they are a great hindrance, like over bottomless pits or near platforms that fall down when Wario stands to long on them.
The birds' relation to the Brown Sugar Pirates is unclear in this game, since they show no signs of being pirates. However, the SS Tea Cups guard, Bobo could summon birds in battle to attack Wario, indicating that they may have teamed up with the pirates. It is also possible however, that Bobo can summon them just because he is basically a bird as well.
Role in Wario Land 2
Birds reappear in this game, although they are now called Blue Birds due to their light-blue colour. They are noticably smaller there and have slim, torpedo-like bodies. When Wario approaches them, they charge at him in a straight line (as opposed to the arching move pattern of their predecessors). When they hit Wario, he will lose some of his coins and be thrown back. Blue Birds can be defeated by jumping on their heads and sometimes Wario has to take advantage of this, using them as stepping stones to reach higher locations. Unlike other enemies, Blue Birds respawn when the screen is not focused on their original spot.
It appears that Blue Birds are regular animals in this game, rather than members of the Black Sugar Pirates.
Role in Wario Land 3
Birds can be found in this installment as well and their appearance changed once again. They are more pudgy in this game and are of a brown colour. Their behaviour is similar to that of their previous forms, meaning that they will attack in a straight line when they spot Wario. Upon impact, Wario will not lose coins anymore, but be will become Crazy Wario and has to be healed with water before the player can proceed.
